After the launch of the latest iteration of its highly successful luxury saloon, the Accord, Honda now say that the much awaited hatchback, the Jazz will only come by the end of the year 2009. Earlier reports suggested the car might come by the end of the year 2008. The new Jazz will be manufactured at Honda’s new upcoming plant at Takapura in Rajasthan. The plant being made at an investment of Rs. 1000 crores will be fully operational only by the end of the next year, though the engine components and stamping would begin by september this year. The full assembly unit will take atleast half a year to complete, indicated top officials of the company.
Honda has already launched Jazz in Europe, North America, Latin America and some parts of Asia including Japan, Malaysia, China, Singapoer and Thailand.

Tata has launched another bi-fuel version of its popular ubiquitious hatchback, Indica Xeta V2 LPG. The Indica Xeta is equipped with a dual fuel (petrol + lpg) engine which reduces CO2 emissions by about 10% percent while delivering excellent fuel efficiency within the city as well as on highways. Tata Indica Xeta has sold reasonably after they launched it with the fuel efficient 1.2 litre engine with the option of fitting CNG kit at the dealer without loosing warranty.
The new Xeta LPG comes with a sophisticated multipoint fuel injection system with two electronic control units in master-slave configuration for the dual fuel option. The engine make a maximum power of 65.3 PS @ 5000 rpm while running on petrol and an impressive 62 PS @5000 rpm when running on LPG. The peak torque is an equally healthy 102 Nm @ 2600 rpm, which helps immensly in city driving conditions. The engine already meets the Bharat III emission norms and can also be tweaked to meet the tough Euro IV norms.

The Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE has announced that Tata Motors of United Kingdom has signed an official letter of intent to compete in the famed competition. The Automotive X PRIZE competition is designed to inspire a new generation of viable, super fuel efficient vehicles. Tata Motors in the process becomes the first major automobile manufacturer to take part in the competition which has a total of 70 teams from 12 countries around the world and 22 U.S states, which will now compete for a prize money of $10 million.

Ford Motor Co. India have started operations are their new plant in Chennai, as it seeks a bigger share of the fast growing Indian car market. The plant has been strategically located near its carmaking facility in Chennai.
The new plant at present has the capacity to make 10,000 1.6 Duratec petrol engines and 40,000 1.4 Turbodiesel Duratorq diesel engines that currently do the duty in the Fiesta Sedan and the Fusion. The current capacity of the plant is intended only for the Indian car market. The plant is a flexible unit and the production can be shifted to 1.6 petrol engine based on demand.

Supreme court has sought reply from Tata Motors, West Bengal government and others as to why ‘fertile multi-crop agricultural land’ was acquired for the company’s small car project at singur. This matter will come up for hearing in july.
Earlier this year Calcutta High Court ruled in favor of the West Bengal government and Tata Motors when a petition was filed which said government of west bengal forcibly took the land from farmers for industrial use, which isn’t allowed.

Bajaj Auto has annouced its Joint Venture with Renault-Nissan to commence building another $2500 Small Car for the Indian Market.The new partnership will be 50 per cent owned by Bajaj Auto, while Renault and Nissan will acquire 25 per cent each.

Bajaj Auto had revealed its small-car plans in the Auto Expo 2008 and there were also similar reports of Nissan.

The Car has been code-named ULC(Ultra-low cost) and will directly compete with the Tata Motors Nano. The key feature of the product would be its fuel efficiency as this car could offer twice the fuel economy than the existing products in the market. It is believed that Bajaj is aiming for a mileage in the range of 35 km / litre.

BMW has once again shown who’s the master of the Internal Combustion Engine. The company sweeped the awards this time around too, winning prizes for as many as 6 catagories out of a total of 11 catagories according to the engine cubic capacity. BMW also won the most coveted award of the evaluation with its twin-turbo 3.0 litre engine taking the cake as the International Engine Of The Year.

Honda Cars India Limited a subsidary of the parent Honda Motor Company, Japan today launched the 8th Generation Accord in the Indian market. The car comes with all new styling and even better quality interiors for the discerning buyers amongst us.

The Accord comes in three variants - Accord 2.4, Accord 2.4 Elegance and Accord 2.4 Inspire with prices starting at Rs. 16.49 Lakhs (Ex-Showroom Delhi) going upto Rs. 18.14 Lakhs (Ex-Showroom Delhi) for the top-end variant. The car comes with an uprated version of the 2.4 litre i-Vtech engine which now delivers 180 PS of power alongwith an 8% increase in fuel efficiency. The engine also meets the EURO IV emission norms. The new Accord is more spacious than the outgoing car and the length and width of the car has seen an increase of 80mm and 25mm respectively.

The launch of the all new Mercedes E-Class is just around the corner. Based on an all-new platform, W212 in Mercedes speak, the mildly disguised car was caught testing by the spies from the Auto Magazine, Car. The new CLS will be also based on this platform
The changes in styling wont be as drastic as BMW did with the 5-series, instead the profile is typical Mercedes Benz and looks like the small brother of the S-Class. The version caught testing was the E63 AMG sports saloon, apltly clear with the big wheels, quad exhaust pipes, a distinct bodykit and huge brake discs all around.

Mahindra Ingenio launch is very near. One of our regular blog reader Raj Thevar has sent us the scoop pictures of the test mules caught parked in the Mulund(e) area of Mumbai. The car was heavily covered up. The steering wheel center had the Mahindra logo which confirmed it was a Mahindra indeed. The driver when prodded denied saying its a Scorpio, spilled the beans later saying Ingenio it is.
