2010 Mercedes Benz SLS AMG “Gullwing” Revealed!

Mercedes Benz has revealed the original 300SL Gullwings next generation successor, the high anticipated SLS Gullwing ahead of its next week debut at the Frankfurt Motor show.
Featuring retro-inspired styling having upright fascia, drawn headlamps complete with the 70 degree opening Gullwing doors that made the original 300SL such a rage, the SLS AMG will come with a front/mid mounted AMG 6.3 litre V8 which develops a heady 571 bhp @ 6800 rpm and 480 lb-ft of torque @ 4750 rpm. The engine is mated to a 7-speed SpeedShift dual-clutch transmission which channels the power to the rear wheels. The motor is codenamed M159 and is considerably revised when compared to the current M156 engine which is fitted in almost every AMG offering. The M159 features restructured valve gear and camshaft, an all new intake manifold system, a dethrottled exhaust system and dry sump lubrication system which frees up the extra power.
Mercedes also claims a fuel economy figure of 18 mpg for this engine.
The light weight aluminium space frame chassis means “light for a supercar” weight of just 3500 pounds allowing the SLS AMG Gullwing to accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 3.7 seconds whie the low center of gravity of gravity keeps the SLS AMG firmly planted to improve handling. Top speed is 197 mph which kept in check with authority by the optional ceramic brake discs.
On the inside, the cockpit type interior features real metal trim, nappa leather and optional carbon fiber to set the interior apart from the regular M-B offerings. Mercedes also says that five interior shades will be on offer to aid customization. The exteriors will have nine exclusive paint shades which includes two matte finishes.
The SLS AMG Gullwing features a 47/53 weight distribution which is supported by a sophisticated suspension system with A-arms and track rods developed in conjugation with the F1 programme.
The SLS AMg will retail from €177,310 (including VAT) in Europe when it goes on sale in spring of 2010. The pricing for North American market will be revealed later.
