The all new Ford Ikon

We were the first Indian blog to reveal Ford India’s plans to launch the all new Ikon with the option of the 1.4 Diesel engine. As we said earlier, the all new Ford Ikon will be launched in a few hours from now. This will be second major facelift for the Ikon after 2003 when Ford modified the front bumper, freshened up the interiors and re-tuned the engines for better economy.

Grill less front is all new with a meatier bumper and kinked headlamps for a meaner, more agressive look. The rear has been left almost untouched with slightly re-designed clear lens tail lamps and ’Diesel’ bading. The insides have been revised with redesigned instrument cluster which now features clear dials and a new CD/MP3 player.

The big news is the 1.4 litre diesel engine option with 68 ps of power @ 4000 rpm and 160 nm of maximum twist @ 2000 rpm, which will make the new Ikon a strong competitor to the likes of the hot-selling Suzuki Swift Dzire, Mahindra-Renault’s Logan and Tata Motor’s Indigo.  The company has also re-worked the steering geometry, tweaked the suspension. Special care has also been taken to reduce the NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness).

Like the new Fiesta launched recently, Ford will also be offering optional extra accessories for the new Ikon which include side skirts, remote boot release, sporty seat covers and floor mats, neck rest and even reverse parking sensors.

The new Ikon will come in a total of 7 color options.
