Bajaj To Launch The World’s Most Fuel Efficient Engine DTS-Si 2.0

Bajaj Auto has announced that it will roll out new products based on its new engine series, DTS-Si 2.0 the world’s most fuel efficient engine at the launch of the new Pulsar 220 DTS-i yesterday.

Completely designed in-house by Bajaj’s ‘Ahead’ R&D team, the DTS-Si 2.0 engine incorporates many changes to the internals which will help make the combustion more efficient while also reducing frictional loses.

Some of the major feature to the DTS-Si 2.0 engine have already been incorporated in the Pulsar 220 engine which not only makes the bike go faster while being fuel efficient at the same time.

Bajaj Auto will launch the first two wheeler based on this engine technology in July next month.

The major features of the new DTS-Si engine are:

* All new port geometry for improved thermodynamics

* New Valve cost material to elmiminate carbon formation

* Oval Pent roof combustion chamber which maximizes charge density of the flame propagation path to achieve near complete combustion

* Molykote Piston to reduce friction

* Refined ExhausTEC system to deliver more torque at lower rpm

* 5-Speed Transmission to ensure power and torque spread throughout the rev range for most optimum riding

Commeting on the occasion, S Sridhar CEO Bajaj Two wheelers said

”We will offer customers an unbeatable value proposition with the launch of the world’s most fuel efficient bike. As fuel is the single major cost of running and operating a 2-wheeler we believe that this vehicle will have a huge appeal and relevance for the cost conscious customer.”

With the slew of new launches Bajaj aims to arrest falling two wheeler sales while also take the compeition from TVS in the form of SR 125 and Yamaha head on.

It is very heartening to note that Bajaj is once again accepting the ground reality that the common man with his limited abilities (driving and monetary) is very content to drive a capable 100cc which will stand by him, through thick and thin.

Looks will attract a new buyer but it is the quality which ultimately stands by him in the years to come. If Bajaj rings the quality bell (only time will tell) then they are once again in the reckoning. Now if only they had given a more asthetic look for the headlamp……
