BATTLE OF THE “NANOS”

Maruti Suzuki India is planning a new low-price car to take on the Tata Motors “Nano”.
 
According to the reports, Maruti might bring a stripped-down version of the Maruti 800. This car could cost between Rs 1.2 to Rs 1.5 lakh. The existing Marui 800 is priced at around Rs. 2 Lakh.

On the other hand, Tata Nano’s low end variant is likely to cost around Rs 1 lakh and about Rs 1.25 lakh in some others. The top-end variants may cost around Rs 1.5 lakh.

The sales of the Maruti 800, the best-selling car by the country’s largest carmaker, has not changed significantly since the Tata Nano Launch in AutoExpo 2008.

What do they mean by stripped down Maruti 800? It is already stripped down. Perhaps they will remove the doors or the seats or may be the dash board. Or maybe they will all be offered as optionals and by the time people put them back it will probably cost more than what the car costs today.
