BMW’S 2 WHEEL DRIVE F800 FOR EUROPEAN HILL CLIMBING CHAMPIONSHIP!
BMW has created a one of kind concept 2 wheel drive bike for hill climbing competitions in Europe. Long considered to be rather a staid and proper bike manufacturer, BMW has taken a veritable U-turn to come up with this bike.
The bike is powered by a slighly modded version of the parallel twin engine used in F800 and the new GS series machines housed in a custom frame with an extended swingarm and dirt bike ergonomic and makes a healthy 100 horsepower and drives both wheels. The front wheel is driven by, what appears to be a hydraulic pump and motor combo which is mounted on fat front forks. The engine also feature dual sprockets with chains leading to the rear axle and another one going into the bodywork which will activate the hydraulic pump and power the front wheels.
BMW say that they have no plans to put the 2WD bike into production but with Yamaha’s 2-trac 2WD and other aftermarket kits available in the market, they might just take the bait.
