Audi will use dual-clutch gearbox in most of its future models if Wolfang Hatz is to be believed. Wolfang heads the Powertrain Development for the Volkswagen group, which owns Audi says that Audi could use dual-clutch transmission in 90% of its cars sold.
Going forward, fuel efficiency and clean performance is one of the biggest challenge that automobiles companies will face and Mr. Hatz thinks dual-clutch gearbox is the answer.
“In the future, I expect that 90% of our transmissions will be double-clutch,” Hatz told Motor Trend Online. The technology will expand itself beyond small displacement and low powered models. Audi’s latest dual-clutch offering in Q5 and S4 can handle high power and more than 440 lb-ft of torque, he added.
He also mentioned that the technology will be available in future on the “supersport” offerings and possibly on the R8.
No timelines or timeframes were mentioned.
