Fiat Grande Punto Launched!
Keep visiting for latest updates.
One of the most anticipated car of the year, Fiat Grande Punto has been launched in the Indian market.
The car is launched at a time when Fiat is on a revival mode in India and will hope that like other demographies, the Grande Punto will be its saviour in India. The Grande Punto comes with a big reputation having been designed by none other than ‘Car Designer Of the Centuary’ Giorgetto Giugiaro. The strong chracter of the Grande Punto is defined by a sleek and agressive nose which is dynamic, sporty and elegant at the same time. The rear end is softer and very clean and balances the agression of the front. Its one of the most successful car from Fiat and has sold more than 1.6 million units across markets. It will also be one of the safest small car on Indian road with a EURO NCAP rating of 5 Stars, the highest a car can get!
The car has been launched with a total of three engine options - two petrol FIREÂ (Fully Integrated Robotized Engine) engines in capacities of 1.2 and 1.4 Litre and one Diesel, the acclaimed MULTIJET 1.3.
The 1172 cc, 2 valve per cylinder SOHC 1.2 FIRE engine is good for a maximum power of 68.2 PS @ 6000 rpm and a maximum torque of 95.75 nm at a low 2500 rpm which will aid city driveability. The other petrol option 1.4 Litre FIRE engine is a DOHC 1368cc unit with 4 valves per cylinder with a maximum power of 90 PS @ 6000 rpm and maximum torque of 115 nm @ 4500 rpm. The diesel engine is the much acclaimed 1.3 Litre Multijet engine with maximum power of 76 PS @ 4000 rpm and maximum twist of 197 nm at just 1750 rpm!
The car comes in a total of three variants- Active, Dynamic and Emotion Pack for both the Petrol and Diesel. Additionally a fully loaded Emotion Option Pack will also be available. At launch the Grande Punto will come with Six Color options - Bossa Nova White, hip Hop Black, Minimal Grey, Exotica Red and Electric Blue.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Rajeev Kapoor, CEO, Fiat India Automobiles Ltd said “The launch of the Grande Punto marks a new milestone for Fiat in India as we bring the quintessentially Italian design to Indian shores. Our previous launch C Plus sedan, Linea has met with tremendous response and we are confident that our latest premium hatchback offering will also excite our customers. The Grande Punto is unique and designed to be the new benchmark in terms of style. We believe that the B plus segment in India has been under tapped and consumers are increasingly looking forward to driving world renowned international brands on India roads. The Grande Punto will offer safety and quality standards that are particularly high for its segment at a very competitive price. The car will tempt prospective customers with one of the most pleasurable drives in the segment and will also be an exciting proposition for its customers with its great/content ratio. Grande Punto is for demanding customers who love hatchbacks and yet want the luxury of a sedan. The high level of localization which will increase to 85% by december 2009 has helped us aggressively price the Punto”.
Fiat this time around is very very serious about after sales service for which special teams have been formed. Grande Punto servicing costs would also be amongst the lowest in the segment given the massive 15000 kms service interval and on par pricing of the spares with respect to the competition.
The car has been priced starting for Rs. 3.99 Lakhs for the base 1.2 Active Petrol going all the way upto Rs 6.11 Lakhs Ex-Showroom Delhi for the top end diesel with emotion pack.

Looks good only from outside. once you step inside, all your enthusiasm will vanish in thin air. how i wish it had good interior to match the exterior. looks too outdated.
and less said about the engine the better(petrol). 68 ps from 1.2L for this heavy machine will make it a slow cart. and a 1.4L produces 90ps which honda’s 1.2L produces. shame on fiat. they should have atleast 100ps to stay ahead of competition.
as per zigwheels, acceleration times are more than 14 seconds which is not good while fuel economy is also less. will have to verify this but i guess 1.2 will be a slow mover no doubt and don’t expect any fireworks from 1.4L too. 1.3 mjd will be good but nothign exceptional
and the rear seats are very cramped, just like swift if front seats pushed back at maximum. most of the space taken up by sloping dashboard and boot.
only the features, price, looks, colors on offer are the positives.
everything else sucks
it should do good. hope they solve the after sales service problem asap
I hope this car will sell and put FIAT in the minds of Indian customers for all the right reasons.
I’m very much disappointed by the FIAT India’s work. They’ve just done BS while launching Punto….just look at the dashboard it just sucks now….they’ve altered its original looks and now dashboard seems to be a cross b/w Palio and Punto….looks Crap ! 1.3L Multijet engine is behaving sluggish in Punto….the Idiots at Fiat hav no idea hw to tune a car before its launching….its the same story with Linea diesel unit. Alloy are just piece of shit…! looking horrible ! I’m very very disappointed and annoyed of the shit that FIAT India has showed….the price of the car is also crap.
Mark my words “THIS WILL BE THE NEXT FAILED CAR IN INDIA AFTER ALL PREVIOUS FAILED CARS BY FIAT” …FIAT SHOULD BE GIVEN THE TITLE OF FAILED CAR MANUFACTURER OF THE CENTURY !!!
The CEO of company is the biggest moron of the industry, I don’t how and for what he has been appointed as the CEO of the FIAT INDIA…!!!
They’ve spoiled my fav car ! F*** OFF FIAT INDIA !
@ lambo, too much critical. you have a point though. but the fiat (along with tatas) knows the market better than we do. look at the price at which car is on offer, the features (the safety features) you get and the quality. and engines though not exeptional are in with the competition.
this car can do wonders for fiat. intieriors are in black again. expected it to retail at higher price. cant figure out how tata will manage. but overall good car. want to see how it drives

Dear Rahul,
Your post itself makes in very clear that you dont know even the “SHIT” of a FIAT car.
Probably you have never seen the LINA dash, its same as PUNTO and only the color and tone is different. In terms of quality, it even betters LINEA. (Looks are subjective).
And regarding FIAT Tuning, the tuning they give is for a reliable car, not a ROCKET which starts smoking after some 40K kms onboard. I am seeing a lot of SMOKING SWIFTS daily which itself tells the truth of “MASTERFUL tuning” of Maruti. SWIFT is performer, but its not a CONSISTENT performer.
Yes, “FIAT SHOULD BE GIVEN THE TITLE OF FAILED CAR MANUFACTURER OF THE CENTURY” not for Launching a “SHIT” which propels like a rocket @2000 rpm, and starts RATTLING as if it has fallen from MARS.
And reg the CEO, you WILL be the only person who DONT know or EVEN WILL NEVER KNOW, why Rajiv has been appointed as CEO of FIAT INDIA.
Fiat has once again given a terrific car.
Unlike a Maruti, Hyundai and many other manufacturers which lack high speed stability Fiat cars feels rock solid in handling and feel.Yeas the feel of plastics is little low compared to swift who is giving everything .Maruti cuts corner in bad chassis , thin sheets metal for body fabrication , outdated wiring systems and this Fiat is giving with CANBUS system given in BMW , Audi’s at a very high price.
I drove the car today and just like every other Fiat owned I know i am in love with this one.
Only issue i just bought the Linea . But the deal is too good so booked a red emotion pack.
I am i n Love all over again.
Dear Shine,
I think you know FIAT India and Rajeev better than any1 in this world….but how? How can you say that i haven’t seen the Linea’s dash….? Or may its you who haven’t noticed the difference…! Next time please comment after doing some research. And why u’ve posted “shit” many times in ur post…do u like shit a lot? …may be
And don’t you know the difference b/w a rocket n a car ?? If u r fond of driving a sluggish car that is pain in ass…after spending 6 lacs over it…..then don’t think the world to be similar as u ! We hav brains…we spend hard earned money, and we want VALUE FOR OUR MONEY ! We r not fools and can’t lick balls of Italians !
Problems with Indian Punto:
- Dash looks more than a cross b/w Palio n Punto rather than similar to Linea. Linea’s dash is slant…it has a unique look….it suits to that car….but not in Punto.
- Rear seat are most cramped in the category. there is almost no knee space left over in rear seats if any person above 5′8″ sits on front seats. though seats are comfortable.
-Price is not competitive.
-Performance wise it comes as Swift>Vista>Palio>Punto (1.3 MJD)
-Fuel efficiency wise it comes as Swift>Vista>Punto
-Punto’s alloys just SUCKS!
-Ride is not peppy, the acceleration boost that use to felt while driving Swift is missing in Punto…though acceleration is smooth but not peppy.
-Plastic quality is total shit….looks “shiny”
Indian Punto’s sale will be like that of Palio’s in their launch days…people who don’t know much about this car will buy this in excitement but later they’ll feel their mistake.
If FIAT India rectifies these loopholes in Punto then no hatchback can some near to it.
International Punto is my fav hatchback. I’ve some decent knowledge about Punto. If any1 wants to debate over this car than plz reply like a sensible person, not like a mad cat !
I have a contract hire Fiat Grande Punto and I want to fit my own CD player. When I give the car back at the end of contract, it can’t have any marks on it around where I have fiddled trying to remove the CD player. So, is there any fairly easy way of doing this without making any marks on the dashboard area?
@ Rahul you sound like frustrated person, who bought a car a few days back.
if you are talking of the quality of the swift being better, you are wrong bro. swifts dash only looks good. an year on road and you hear all types of sounds from the dash. just see a cabin of a palio (used one), it lasts longer than any indian car, though it looks boring.
if you have problems with rear leg room in a punto, then what about swift.
the price at which punto is retailing makes swift and ritz feel more expensive.
you are talking of the punch in swifts acceleration, that is due to turbo lag which is almost non existent in the upgraded multijet engines which the punto and the vista uses.
mercedes e class is sluggish compared to the competition bmw 5 but e is the best selling car.
Dear Navnit,
Ya I’m really feeling kind of frustrated bcoz FIAT has thrown water on what I was expecting. Bro i’m not talking about the quality of swift better, neither i compared the leg space…just read my post once again. And regarding pricing of Punto it needs to be priced competitively against the Swift since it has to make its roots firm in the market. Maruti is already a market leader, people buys its cars with confidence. But this is not the case with FIAT…so it has to be lil competitive in pricing. Also my point is that why these foreign manufacturers do partiality with us? they strip down quality n features from there cars before launching in India, even when Indians pay the price twice as much the people in other countries.
and Mercedes is a brand that even every beggar knows that what this names stands for. It has been regarded as the choice of royals in India. BMW is a new brand here, people who are young and hav some knowledge about cars prefer BMW nowadays. But beating sales of Mercedes will be tough for BMW, since Merc has its own capabilities which BMW can’t match…and in most of cases these cars are chauffeur driven…hence the brand which is more renowned will be preferred.
I posses Swift Vdi n Indica Vista QJt too…and was willing to get my hands on this new babe Punto VDi….but all gone messed up….atleast for me. So now I’ll wait for a new engine i.e. 1.6L MJD (which is coming soon in Linea) or if miracle happens then 1.9MJD which is available in Punto in rest of the World.
I can vouch for the Swifts poor quality. It rattles and then it rattles and then it rattles some more. Anyways the Punto is an awesome car. Drove it and have written a review. The car handles very well and rides much better.
BTW CC some awesome pics. Love the Punto in blue.
guys wat do u think about grande punto or linea not offering esp in india even after charging a hefty sum of amount for the top end models, are they ignoring it because its india and are we ignorant about features and safety.
be it jazz which does not have six airbags and esp in its topend model, which is available in international models (or) i20 which does’nt feature esp in its topend model and all three cars claim and advertise about 5star Euro NACP ratings in india and they dont feature it, so does it means that none of these cars in india meet Euro NACP ratings…..???????
Hi,
I agree with Rahul, i have taken the test drive of Grande Punto 1.3 multijet, as i was looking for an option to Maruti Swift.
But I guess its impossible to beat Maruti in small car segments….. I wish any body can do it….
Punto is nowhere near to Swift in Performance … Believe it… or test drive both cars and you will come to know…
Its really costly car 6.7 lacks (1.3 emotion pk), on Road price in NCR is too high for a bad plastic hatchback.
Problems - {All realistic }
1-Interiors are Really BAD…surely you can say it BAD…really crap, you can compare it with any 3 lacks car. See Beat’s interior its 10 times better than this costly hatchback.
2-Driver’s sitting position is worst even to Tata Nano, no space for arms movement, bad leg position while driving.Drive it and feel it.{my height is 5′10″}
3-No resale value, if you compare with swift.
4- Overweight car, takes 17.55 seconds for 0-100 km/h,if you compare swift VDI,it take only amazing 14.4 seconds.
5- Over priced, Swift VDI 5.74 lacks Ex showroom NCR, Fiat Punto 6.7 Lacks ex Showroom NCR… 1 lack difference …i think it matters, remember India is a price sesitive market.
6-Third party service centers (Fiat outsourced that to Tata).
7-Low mileage if you compare with Swift.
Even knowing all this, i might buy Punto, cuz Maruti Swift VDI waiting is 4 months in NCR, Maruti must have 100 manufaturing centers. But 6.7 is big amount to really waste on a bad plastic car.
Punto is selling because Maruti has given this space for Fiat Punto…. I think they are too liberal on Fiat.
I wish all the best to Punto, may GOD make it successful. As i would need to resale it after 5-6 years…..
Regards,
the 1.2 1172CC 2VALVE POWERTRAIN IS A BIG SCRAP TECHNOLOGY THAT FIAT is trying to push in India. the Palio 1.1 also was a crap engine. Although they have the best advancement powertrain of the same engine blocks, they havent brought it to India.
Definitely, Rajeev Kapoor is bidding within the company for a scrap and trying to make best out of a sinking powertrain at the last minute. Very bad strategy.
1.2 Ltr petrol with latest 16V DOHC boosts around 79hp comparable with suzuki K Series. Please bring those. Otherwise, Grave is self done. No Indian is fool. Never think you are the only smart guy on the subcontinent. Dont be cheating people. Palio shell is not a bad design, but whats bad is the powertrain. Even with the 1.6, you can extract more power. Please bring the multi air 1.4 that belts 100bhp, and pitch it against Honda city. Also, plonk the 1.25ltr VGT DIESEL in Punto, and pitch it against Jazz and i20. You can just kill the competition.
Please contact me if you need more advice. Else, prepare your grave.
