Fiat Linea T-Jet Launch At Auto Expo 2010

Fiat Linea

Fiat Linea

Fiat Linea is a fantastic car which has lead Fiat’s recovery in the Indian market. The engines, although adequately powered for the car have always been criticized of being ‘not enough’ for the enthusiasts. Enthusiasts who still swear by India’s erstwhile hot hatch the Palio 1.6 and newbies who like the Linea but want more power.

We can now confirm that Fiat will launch the Linea T-Jet at the 2010 edition of the Auto Expo in New Delhi (or even before, stay tuned!). The Linea T-Jet comes with the turbocharged version of the naturally aspirated 1.4 petrol and develops a healthy 120 ps @ 5000 rpm and more impressive 206 nm of torque right from 1750 rpm onwards! With so much torque low down in the rev range we would expect the T-Jet to be even more fuel efficient than the current NA 1.4, simply because you dont need to rev the car as much to move about and can simply ride the torque most of the times within the city.

The Linea T-Jet will accelerate from 0-100 kph in a blistering 9.2 seconds with a top speed of around 200 kph. When launched, Linea T-Jet will be the only car in its catagory to have a turbocharged petrol engine. Apart from the engine the Linea will also come with comfort and convenience features like Hill Holder function (for hill starts where the car would automatically brake to stop it rolling backwards when you take your foot off to accelerate), Rain sensing wipers, Automatic headlamps and Reverse parking sensors.

Test cars have been spotted multiple times on the highway moving pretty swiftly. Unfortunately both our readers who sent us the information were unable to take any pictures becuase the car just ‘flew past’! Thanks for the tip Amit!

You did mention “in its class”. But yes, a class above (don’t know if it will be in the same segment tho’) is the Octavia Petrol. 1.8l 150 BHP

I think the car will rock only if it is priced well. Where is the 1.6 MJD?

i mean vauxhall corsa and astra of course and features like 8 airbags, abs with esp should be made mandatory in india………..

the opel brand has been withdrawn from indian market, since its sales saw a freefall due to the perception tat its very heavy on maintenance and expensive spares..
anyways, indian manufacturers known for their frugal engineering and manufacturing processes, must b workin on producing cheap versions of abs and airbags.tata for example, has tied up wit autoliv,to produce airbags at the cheapest cost possible, for the cheapest car on earth.so,in al probability,in a couple of yrs, atleast drivers airbag and abs might b made mandatory in india.since indian market is very price sensitive,al v can expect in te meantime is for the automakers to offer these as optional extras.
mayb te govt can pressurise the oem to hav safety features in vehicles beyond a particular price point, mayb a 5lac mark, and let economy of mass production make it possible for te tech to track down to cheaper cars..

yes, turbo jet for petrol is long overdue… diesel consumption in india adding to the burden of oil companies which would make Govt to choose either free fuel price administration and subsidy or increase taxes on diesel personal vehicles, we (the mass) need high torque petrol engines.. Long live petrol and its engines.

SX4 is a fantastic car. It is a car for the highway. I like it;it’s looks and comforts. Mileage is around 11.8 to 13.5 in City driving with AC always on. Overall an awesome fun to drive car. SUV like driver view. it is a car for real driving enthusiasts.
