Fiat Testing Linea 1.6 Diesel?

Fiat has launched the Linea with much fanfare and the results have been good too. The car has been selling in decent numbers but the more performance oriented amongst us are asking for better engines for both petrol and diesel.

Lineas have been spotted undergoing testing by our readers in Pune alongwith Grand Punto on a regular basis and for a car that has already been launched it could only mean one thing, a new engine. According to our reliable sources, Fiat is indeed testing the 1.6 Litre Turbodiesel Common Rail engine in the engine bay of the Linea. The new 1.6 Litre, 4 Cylinder 16 valve engine is a very high tech unit and comes in two varities, a turbocharged 105 bhp unit and a 120 bhp with VGT and more than 300 nm of torque! The new engine is very low on maintenance too with a service interval of 35000 kms in Europe!  The fuel efficiency is also said to equal or better then 1.3 JTD already present in the Linea.

We really hope Fiat launches the Linea with this new diesel engine which will make this already very desirable car to an irresistible one. Over to you Fiat!

i think they will not be doing this since it damages their already existing customers. but this could be done for testing the engine suitable for the bravo launch, its a great muscular car and weighs similar to linea.

Linea is a great car. With its retro styling and lively performance it has won many hearts. It would be great if the diesel version of Linea is in Fiat’s pipeline.

If the news id true, then trust me Fiat is gonna do a world of good to their sales n their stay in the Indian Market n believe u me its really gonna show in the due course of time. Will also definately affect the Grande Punto’s sale in a positive way as hopefully Fiat will have its feet well set in the Indian Market.. provided they launch this 1.6 variant (Petrol/Diesel) and take their immediate competitors head on… As a proud patron n a lover of Fiat, I wish them all the best

Fiat’s Linea sales have dropped since the launch - mostly because of two reasons. One is that there are some minor irritants in fit and finish (like the logo falling off frequently, the chrome strip loosening, some minor noise in the dash, etc..) as can be seen from various reviews online. The second reason is the underpowered nature of the vehicle. While most reviewers agree that the power delivery in third gear is good, at lower gears (which is important to create the excitement in City driving) its so sluggish that even a unladen lorry can overtake you!

In my opinion, Linea should get the 1.6 engine with 120 BHP without the increase in price or a max 25K increase to make it really irresistible and to take the ANHC head-on. Otherwise with the kind of reputation Fiat has in India, many would still think ten times before even considering this as an option.

What’s it with Fiat that they dont talk at all? Everybody seems to want more power in Linea and there are rumours about 1.6L Multijet but for the petrol, it could also be the Fiat 1.4 16V T-Jet engine which could be launched.

So combined with the Team-BHP post where the CEO is claimed to have said that 1.6L engine is not on the cards, the T-jet engine seems more likely.

Anyway, Fiat is only losing lot of customers by not talking.

I own and adore every bit of this lovely car.
I do 160kph on the highway and it simply sails.
A bigger engine, more speed , sure, no problem for the well balanced admiral.
