FULL MONTY: THE NEXT GENERATION HONDA CITY REVEALED!

Next Generation Honda City

The Honda City is the largest selling saloon car in its class and such is its dominance that even in the diesel loving Indian market, the lack of diesel options in its portfolio and presence of other diesel sedans in the same range hasnt dent its appeal. The City continues to soldier on even after the advent of extreme value for money cars like the Suzuki SX4 so you might think Honda should sit back and do nothing because they don’t need to.

You are wrong! Honda will soon launch the next generation City in the Indian market even though the current City is selling pretty well. The sales of the current City obviously have slowed down a little due to increasing fuel costs but not to an extent that would give sleepless nights to Honda. The competition like Ford, Suzuki and Hyundai are still thinking of ways to penetarte the City market, which has been the best seller even since it was launched in the Indian market.

The new City will be launched in Malaysia and India almost simultaneously. This will be Honda’s second launch of the year after the successful Accord. The new City carries the same styling elements as the new Civic. The rear fender looks like the downsized version of the one the Civic, the front carries the new trademark trapezoidal Honda grill which has the same profile as the one on the Accord and Civic. The new City will come with an i-Vtec engine as standard and automatic transmission with pedal shifts as an option. The car has grown in size and width meaning more interior legroom.

Safety has been given a throughover too with Airbags as options from day one while ABS will be standard across the range. The car will also come with a dash integrated stereo which has become a norm for the segment than an exception. Pricing details are still unknown but the new City will be pegged a little above the current car.

No doubt on that … honda will always be overpriced … those who have the moolah .. will always prefer the city .. for the rest like me … value for money is always more money

I agree with Sumit…It cannot be priced on par with Corolla. Corolla is a different segment.

Honda never ceases to surprise me. Their approach to fourwheelers is so radically different to that of their two wheelers. Their two wheelers are most times downright bad looking and have the same engines running for years and years. The four wheeler approach is amazing. Every few years completely new models with new engines and body styles are launched. And very often they are very handsome cars. I know that margins on two wheelers are small, but still they have been selling for years so I am sure adequate profits should have been made. Anyway great to see that Honda has decided to launch a completely new City. I personally think the premium they charge is worth it.

@Satish… Most of the car companies wouldnt have bothered really if they were going as strong as Honda is, in the midsize segment. It does show the commitment Honda has towards the Indian market. The best amongst the Japanese present in India if I may say so.

It looks so ugly, the interiors especially. Seems like teen punk car. I bet Honda wants to bring the price down in competition to SX4 and already started cheap alternatives

Horrible, tacky, made in “PRC” plasticky interiors. I bet, at the present price, hinda can only give yoy good engines. and that is only their forte. the body frame, metal sheet & suspensions far from the quality of skoda.
