GM LAUNCHES CRUZE (LACETTI) IN SOUTH KOREA
![]()
It may be two years away still in the US market but GM has launched the Cruze in the South Korean market. The car will be branded as a Daewoo Lacetti in the market and represents next-generation global small car platform from GM’s stable.
The Cruze (Lacetti) will be sold throughout the world market with different names. The South Korean version comes with a 1.6 Litre, 4 cylinder, 114 bhp engine which is mated to either a five speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. In India the car will be branded as a Chevrolet and may replace the Optra or sell alongwith it placed in the higher D-segment.

The American launch has been delayed due to company’s current cash struggles and will only be launched in the 2011, as against the earlier plans which called for a 2010 year release. The car will eventually replace the Chevrolet Cobalt in the North American market.
In order to bail itself out of the cash issues the company has even asked for $10 billion loan from the federal government to help it acquire Chrysler from Cerberus Capital Management, its current owners. The company is also open to negotiations with Toyota, in order to sell some of its assets.

The Chevrolet grille looks better than the Daewoo one. Hope this car comes to India and also hope GM doesn’t ruin its entry with absurd strategies like selling the car along with the Opta Magnum and therefore pricing it higher. Then when it does not sell they would take recourse to price cuts and drive the customers further away.
