GM Planning New Engine For Tavera

GM is planningĀ a new engine for its MUV Tavera since the current engine would not be able to match the tough Bharat IV norms, applicable from April 2010 onwards.

The new engine could come from the Isuzu D-Max pick up which is sold in Thailand with a 2.5 Litre Common Rail Turbodiesel engine developing maximum power of 116 PS. The newer more powerful engine will enable Tavera to better compete with Innova and Xylo in the Indian car market.

The new Tavera BS IV is unlikely to be launched before the end of 2010 which means that it will sell only in the non metro towns after April next year.
