HONDA LAUNCHES STRIPPED DOWN CIVIC ‘E’ @ 10.8 LAKHS

Honda Civic Type E

Honda has launched the stripped down version of its hot selling sedan, Civic ‘E’ @ 10.8 lakhs Ex-Showroom Delhi, the other version Civic ‘V’ is 11.96 Lakhs Ex-Showroom Delhi. The ‘E’ version comes without alloy wheels, front fog lamps audio controls in the back seat armrest, AUX-IN, Automatic Climate Control, power retractable door mirrors, reading lamps at the back, magazine rack front and back, urethane steering wheel instead of leather, offers fabric seats instead of leather, a single CD changer with 4 speakers instead of the 6 Speaker, 6CD changer, all of which are standard in the top end variant ‘V’. All this is besides missing chrome garnishings on door handles and inside and non body coloured front and rear mud flaps.

Honda hasn’t cringed on safety features though and the stripped down version comes with all the safety features that the top models come with, i.e ABS with EBD and front Air-Bags. Though its a good move by Honda for the money concious, the top end V variant suddenly looks like a better deal with all those extras. What do you think about it? Which one is better value the ‘E’ or the ‘V’?

I beg to differ here. For approximately 1.16 lakhs extra the V version over and above the E version gives you the following.
Automatic Climate Control
Leather Interiors
Front Fog Lamps
6 Cd changer 6 spekaer system instead of single CD and 4 speaker system in E
Aux In and audio controls on the central armrest at the back
Alloy wheels
Chrome garnished interiors and exteriors
Power retractable outside rear view mirrors
Turn signal indicators on OVRM’s
Body Colored everything

Now if you were to add up the cost of everything mentioned above, it will come up more than 1.16 lakhs, the difference in price between the two models. Sure for the money concious E is a better deal but overall V seems better value.

not everyone requires the comfort which honda has removed. some like me would want to drive the honda for riding pleasure that it provides.. not too concerned about luxury etc .. and since there is no compromise on the safety i like the cheaper beast…. as it makes it so much more affordable..

Civic is, without an argument, a luxury segement. Or should I say ‘Was’. Stripping it down actually degrades the ownership pride of the earlier buyers. Honda decided to strip down to cheaper version is to push into Chevrolet Optra, Toyota corolla’s shoes. This may be a good news for buyers looking for excellent package in about 10 lac range. Civic is indisputably the most stunning and well engineered stuff from Honda.
I definitely agree that price differential is visible and later if you try to fit-in these features it will be extremely painful (i have personal experience). If at all one is stepping into this category, please do not miss out on these features. Within a short span you will start looking for these cheap down-market chinese/taiwanese plasticy fitments and that should be last thing you should do to your car (Not Civic plzzzzzz. Stick to M800  ).
