 Honda FCX Clarity

Move over the Toyota Prius, Hollywood green brigade has another better option. Honda has started the limited production run of its hydrogen fuel cell car, the FCX. The car will go on sale in limited number spanning a period of 3 years in Japan and USA.

The FCX clarity runs on hydrogen and electricity and emits only water vapour. According to Honda, the car is two times more enegy efficient than a gas-electric hyrid and a whopping 3 times more efficient that a standard gasoline-powered car. Honda will lease out a few dozen units this year and a total of 200 cars over a period of three years. The three year lease will cost 600$ a month in California and it includes maintenance and collision coverage.

Hollywood celebs have already booked their’s. The first customers are actress Jamie Lee Curtis and filmaker husband Christopher Guest, actress Laura Harris, film producer Ron Yerxa as well as businessmen Jon Spallino and Jim Salomon.

According to Honda the biggest obstacle that stands in wider adoptation of fuel cell vehicles is the cost and number of hydrogen fuel stations. Of the 50,000 applications received for the FCX, Honda aparantely considered people living near hydrogen fuel stations in Torrance, Santa Monica and Irvine.

The deliveries in US will start from July onwards and this fall in Japan.
