Hyundai i20 Coming In Last Week Of December

Rubbishing slowdown, Hyundai will soon launch its renewed B+ segment challenger, the i20. The car will be launched in India in the last week of December.

The car will be launched initially with the option of a 1.4 Litre petrol engine only. “Hyundai has no plans to launch a diesel variant of i20 as of now” said Hyundai Motor India senior V-P Arvind Saxena.

The company has already started exporting i20 to European countries since November 2008. The new i20 will take the competition from Tata Indica Vista, Fiat’s Grand Punto, Suzuki Swift and Skoda Fabia.

After the botched up launch of the i10 here in the UK, we were a bit worried about the launch timings of the i20 which we see as playing a key role in our 2009 strategy.

But true to Hyundai’s word we have had no major hiccups and the first batch of models have started arriving in our showrooms. One thing that stands out is the clever way Hyundai have maximised interior space. It looks cavernous in the front and the rear headroom is so generous it may just sway customers away from the i30.

The only thing we’ve put on the wishlist is to add a USB connection to go alongside the AUX input for iPods in the same way Kia have across the Ceed range.
