Qarmaq is Hyundai’s Advanced Technology Demonstration Vehicle. It showcases over 30 different environmently progressive technologies inlcuding an elastic front end which reduces the risk of severe injuries, in case of pedestrian collisions.

Called a CUV (Crossover Utility Vehicle) the car has been designed at Hyundai’s European design and technical center in Russelsheim and engineered in close co-operation with SABIC Innovative plastics. The innovative technologies from QarmaQ would be selectively in-corporated into Hyundai latest models starting 2008.

The QarmaQ is lighter, stronger and more economical than any other CUV in its class and also offers recycling advantages in construction as well as eventual disassembly. Its a realistic glimpse of where companies are moving on  with latest enviromentally friendly technologies and the future of personal automotive transport.

The QarmaQ illustrates how enviromentally reponsible solutions can be elegantly incorporated to enhance safety, design and performance.The QarmaQ derives its name from traditional Inuit dwellings, constructed from earth, whalebone, and animal skins, which is basically means moving away from coventional construction methods and materials, much the same like QarmaQ.

The QarmaQ blends the driving experience and performace of a coupe with the added ability  to manage multi-terrain driving of a CUV, providing an almost endless playground to the new breed of consumers, who would buy such a vehicle.

The car exteriors and interiors relate strongly to each other with the whole design connected by unique glazed surfaces. The solid bodywork and the transparent glazed areas create a new perspective for the one driving it and also from a pedestrains standpoint.The car features smooth surfaces with hidden touch activated sensors, “floating” elements pulsating and glowing with tinted ambient lightening.

Among the unique safety features are the use of sensors to detect vehicle presence in blind spots around rear view mirros, while overtaking and alerting the driver audio-visually. The car has a 2.0 litre diesel engine which is frugal and complies with EURO 5 emission norms. The engine features some of the very latest in diesel technology such as high pressure fuel injectors, fine atomization of the fuel for higher power and torque output without being harsh on the environment. The emissions have been reduced drastically while a Catalyzed Particulate Filter system (CPF) is capable of cleaing about 90%  of the particulate matter from the diesel emissions.
