According to the latest reports, Tata Motors is planning to hire 600 engineers and spend around £700 million in R&D over the coming two years. The JLR deal cost $2.3 billion to Tata Motors and these new initiatives have been materialised under Ford’s ownership. Tata Motors will not be directly involved with the project.

JLR is keen on improving the environmental performance of its vehicles and says it is looking for experienced, degree educated engineers to work on a variety of ground-breaking projects. In addition, a new graduate programme is being launched for over 80 graduates who will join the business in September. Successful applicants will participate in a number of activities and events over their two year development period.

Chief Executive Officer David Smith said: “This recruitment drive demonstrates Jaguar Land Rover’s confidence in our future. With our new owners, we have entered an exciting era with stunning new models and ambitious technologies. I can’t remember a better time to be part of the British car industry, and certainly it is a brilliant time for Jaguar Land Rover.”

Most of the new jobs will be at the firm’s development centre in Gaydon, Warwickshire in the purchasing, finance and human resources departments. The company might recruit from India as well to fill up some of the engineering numbers. JLR employs around 16,000 people at its three car plants in Castle Bromwich, Solihull and Halewood and its development centres at Gaydon and Whitley in Coventry.
