World’s second largest car company Toyota Motor Corporation, is actively thinking of bringing its elite luxury brand, Lexus - the highest selling global marquee brand, to Indian shores within next 2 years. Lexus will compete with already established luxury brands like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Volvo and Porsche.

With India’s rapidly growing economy and burgeoning luxury car market, Toyota will introduce LS 460 sedan and LX 470 sports utility vehicle in India in the next two years. Toyota also plans to launch another SUV RX330 in the domestic market. With exciting line-up of products from European, American and fellow Japanese makers like Nissan, Toyota cannot afford to ingore this segment for too long.

When contact Toyota Kirloskar Motors India’s, Deputy Managing Director KK Swamy refused to comment on the debut of Lexus brand in India. ““As a matter of policy, we do not comment on future launches.”, He said. However sources in the Automobile Industry said the company plans to maintain the distinct identity of the Lexus brand, just as it does in the developed markets of North America, Europe and Middle East. The preliminary groundwork with regards to marketing & strategy has already started and the brand will have a dedicated dealership network.

Sources also added that TKM will rope in select dealers for the Lexus range under a new marketing strategy. The dealership would be concentrated in major cities and metro’s and even the existing TKM dealers, if shortlisted for Lexus will operate from a seperate exclusive entity to maintain its niche brand value.
