MAHINDRA RENAULT LOGAN TO GO CNG AND LPG WAY
Mahindra & Mahindra will launch the LPG and CNG variant of its reasonably successful sedan, The Logan. Both the alternate fuled version will be based on the 1.6 petrol engine and will be costlier by upto 50,000 rupees or more. Logan is a result of the JV between the French Auto Makor Renault and the Indian Mahindra and Mahindra. The company sold 29,984 units of the car in the previous fiscal year.
“We have had a great year of Logan, cornering about 12 per cent of market share in the ‘C’ segment. In the next 3-4 months, we will be launching the CNG and LPG variant of the car,” Mahindra-Renault’s Chief Operating Officer Nalin Mehta told PTI.
The company will also increase the price of its cars by Rs. 4000 to 5000 for both petrol and diesel variants citing higher input costs owing to increase in price of steel, copper and even plastic.
The company is also looking to expand from 72 town to about 150 by the end of this year.
“By the end of this year, we should be having about 155 dealers as against the existing 94 dealers now,” Mehta said.
Commenting on the outlook of the overall automobile industry, Mehta said maintaining a 12 per cent growth, witnessed in the last fiscal, looks a tall order in this fiscal.
“We are, however, confident that Logan will be able to better industry growth,” he added.

I have seen that the Logan has been adopted by the taxi trade. CNG and LPG will probably drive more taxi operators towards it. That could mean fewer people buying it as a personal car.
Tata Indica and Indigo are used as taxis by fleet operators across India, did it prevent private owners from buying them as personal cars? Is it not the same case with the Sumo, Scorpio, Esteem, Ambassodor?
