The Maruti Suzuki A-Star, the Indian version will have four doors
Its raining new cars this season. After the recent launch of the new Tata Indica Vista, its now Maruti’s turn to launch yet another hatchback in the B segment, the A-Star. The much anticipated and awaited car will debut in the Indian market within a few weeks!
A-Star launch will also mark the debut of the latest ‘K’ series engines from Maruti Suzuki. The latest in small car engines from Suzuki, the new series of engines will trickle their way all throughout the range within the next 3 to 5 years. The ‘K’ engines apart from being Euro IV and Euro V compliant are also very fuel efficient as well. A-Star will be the first small car in the Maruti Suzuki stable to get the new engine. The cute little hatch will also be one of the greenest car in terms of emissions to be sold in India when launched. The new engines will start rolling out from Maruti Suzuki’s new engine plant in Manesar Gurgaon(Haryana) starting next month.
Suzuki Motor Corp Chairman, Osamu Suzuki, is on a three day trip to India from Monday during which he will be visiting the new engine facility which is a part of the 9,000 crore rupee investment being made by the parent company. He will also be discussing the company’s future strategy and preview the ‘A-Star’ at the Manesar assembly plant which is undergoing capacity expansion to reach 3-Lakh units. He had earlier asked the Indian subsidary Maruti Suzuki, to strengthen its R&D capability for small car engines.
India will be the production hub for the A-Star for the entire world and the car will make its European debut, where it will replace Alto, early next year. A total of 100,000 units will be exported to Europe while 50,000 units will be sold in the domestic maket.
