MARUTI SUZUKI AUGUST SALES DECLINE BY 9.9 PERCENT
Country’s largest automaker, Maruti Suzuki has posted a 9.9% decline in total sales for August 2008. The company sold a total of 59,908 units against 65,968 units during the same month last year.
The domestic sales stood at 54,113 units compared to 60,229 units a year earlier down by 10.15 percent said company in a statement.
Exports have seen a marginal growth at 5,795 units in August 2008 compared to 5,730 units a year earlier.
Sales of the bread and butter model of yester years, M800 have been hit the hardest. M800 sales dipped by a massive 32.17 percent at 3,717 units against 5,480 units in the same month last year.
Another Maruti Suzuki strong hold, the A2 segment comprising of Alto, Zen Estilo, Swift and Wagon-R, has also seen a decline of 9.75 percent at 37,667 units against 41,736 units in August 2007.
The company however managed to post a healthy 12.15 percent growth in the A3 segment consisting of the SX4 and Swift Dzire.
Going forward, the recent launch of the Indica Vista and the 1.2 Kappa engined Hyundai i10 will not make things easy for the company which will feel the pressure even more.
