MARUTI SUZUKI SWIFT DZIRE PICTORIAL REVIEW

The front is exactly like the Swift Hatch except for the two chromed horizontal slats in place of earlier mesh grill with the Suzuki ‘S’ logo sitting in the middle. The new grill really suits the personality of the car and makes it look more upmarket when compared to the hatch, which can only be a good thing.
The alloys are standard fare for the top end Z*i models and though they look nice, the design is rather conservative to appeal to a wider audience. The car still has a squat stance and strong shoulder line. The crease which runs from the front bumper, rising all the way to the rear tail lamp is a nice touch, though leaves the rear window a little too small, taking away the airy ambience of the back seat passengers.
The rear tail lights are almost like the hatch, the only difference being the turn indicators and reverse lights are horizontal. The tailights have been integrated well into the overall design of the car and it seems a good amount to thought has gone into it. The rear also has integrated light reflectors aka SX4 and help break the monotony of the rear bumper.
The 464 litre boot is really big and will accomodate the luggage of a family of four on a holiday easily. Good Job Maruti.
Unfortunately there is no change in the wheelbase compared to the hatch which means no change in the rear legroom but the good news is that rear seat is now wider (60mm wider) also features an integrated arm rest and angled back a little bit for more comfort. We sat on the rear seat and found it to be more comfortable than Swift hatch. There is good under thigh support and padding is spot on, its neither too soft nor too hard.
The rear door pads feature moulded bottle holders absent in the hatch for more convenience for the back seat passengers.
The dashboard design is exactly like the Swift hatch. This is the top end Z*i variant and features integrated stereo with four speakers, two in the front door and two on the parcel shelf at the rear. The stereo also has steering wheel mounted controls which are super convenient and contribute towards safety too, you dont need to take your eyes off the road for adjustment. Front Air Bags are also standard. The middle console has a removable ash tray along with 2 cup holders. There’s also a scooped out rectangular space just below the HVAC controls which can keep a lot of your knick knacks and CD’s.
The integrated stereo also has the AUX IN which makes it easier to attach your external Audio devices like the iPOD. The info display at the top of the dashboard displays the time and also the outside temperature in Z*i and V*i variants.
The electronic climate control system is standard on the top end variant. The whole system is electronic including the Air Flow mode adjustment. The LCD displays the blower speed, temperature and air flow mode.
The dials on the instrument console are chrome ringed which looks really classy and upmarket. Tachometer is standard in the Z*i and V*i models.
The front door pad has place for maps and magazines along with a speaker pod and grill.
The boot has that trademark BMW 7 series ‘hump’ and in profile looks exactly the same. Dont take our word for it, look at the picture above and compare.
Boot has been integrated well and a lot of thought has gone into it. Though it is heavily inspired by the Beemer, Maruti has been careful not to spoil the overall looks and doing the job in haste. The chrome strip above the number plate again looks very upmarket and elegant and suits the overall shape of the boot brilliantly, like it always meant to be there.
The Swift Dzire is a nice looking car although a little bit of alteration at the front wouldn’t have hurt, but then Maruti designers were on a tight budget, so overall job very well done indeed. Best of all, the boot increases the overall weight of the car by a mere 30 kgs and thats no mean achievement. The pricing is fantastic and Maruti have also made some subltle changes to the ride and handling package, to make it more acceptable to saloon car owners while at the same time not loosing the driver appeal of the Swift hatch that has made so famous among the masses and the enthusiasts. The ECU has also been retuned a little to provide a little more low end torque to deal with the increased weight of the saloon. Maruti hasn’t put a foot wrong and have covered almost all the bases with the new Dzire. And yet again, Maruti have a winner in their hands.

I don’t agree. Dzire looks are very impressive. And which other car in this segment can compare in terms of looks. Indigo? Logan? No way.
I test drove DZire. It looks and drives very well. A very good package from maruti. Would soon book one.
