Mercedes Benz SPLITVIEW & PRE-SCAN Technology

Mercedes Benz SplitView Screen Technology

Mercedes is working on a host of new innovative technologies for the upcoming S-Class facelift. The current generation S-Class is in the market since 2005 and is due to receive a minor makeover to keep it fresh for its renewed rivalry with the all new BMW 7-Series launched a couple of months back and the new Audi A8 which is coming in 2010.

The new SplitView technology allows the driver and the passenger to view different programmes on the same screen at the same time! The programmes can be viewed on the generous 8-inch TFT-LCD which is part of the Mercedes innovative control and display system, COMMAND and is centrally located in the dashboard console.

The technology works by displaying two different images by placing pixels adjacent to each other. A filter masking the display divides this mixed image in such a way that depending on the seating position, only pixels making up one or the other image can be seen. The result is, the driver and front passenger can view different programmes on the same screen at the same time.

Mercedes Benz Pre Scan Technology

Mercedes Benz Pre Scan Technology

Another technology which will debut in the facelifted S-Class is the PreScan system. The system works by scanning the road profile at the front and then regulation the front and the rear axle accordingly. The front mounted senser send out pulsed laser beams to scan the road profile ahed and send this information to the active body control system which controls the oil flow into the spring struts at each wheel independently. The movement of the actuators compensate for the unevenness of the road thereby greatly reducing the movement of the body. In a nut shell the sensor scan the road ahead looking for any dips or bumps or irregularities and then ‘preparing’ the suspension to deal with it!

The technological breakthroughs will again put Mercedes Benz at the forefront of state-of-the-art cutting edge automobile technology and one step ahead of its other German rivals.
