M&M: “MILD INTEREST” IN HUMMER

Mahindra Logo Indian UV major, Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) has expressed “mild interest” in talking to General Motors for potential take over of the GM’s hummer brand, but the two companies have not had any serious talks on this so far, reports in media said.

There is a shift in the worldwide auto industry towards smaller fuel efficient cars owing to high gas prices and tough emission norms.

Reports said Pawan Goenka, the company’s automotive President, in an interview had expressed interest in talking to General Motors Corp for the possible purchase of the brand but also added that the two sides havent had any serious discussions so far on this and that an acquisition doesnt makes any sense for us.

Mahindra will launch a small ‘Mahindra’ badged pick up in the US market next summer, the scoop pictures of which we showed you here and follow it up with a mid-size SUV likely in 2010. Mahindra’s distribution partners in US have delayed the SUV launch due to shift in market conditions and the company will eventually launch crossovers and hybrid vehicles in US, the report said.

Mahindra vehicles are being sold in several markets around the world but heavy investment is being made in an effort to re-engineer the vehicles for US standards and consumer tastes, the report said.
