Paying so much for what is essentially a dinosaur is ridiculous. Unitised gearbox and engine and things that have been on offer from other manufacturers for nearly 4 decades. What will prevent REM from looking completely idiotic is the prizing of the R-15 by Yamaha. If there are enough people to fall for this kind of stupidity, so be it.

Well the price is a bit on the higher side, nevertheless a test drive will tell us whether it is worth.

@Satish…. YZF R15 is a bit overpriced but given the kind of technology and engineering it comes with, i think it is justified. I will tell you how. Take Pulsar 150 as an example, it costs 59k’s ex-showroom delhi compared to the YZF R15 which is 97 k’s. Over and above the Pulsar in the YZF R15 you are getting…
1) Rear Disc Brake
2) Delta Box Frame
3) Water Cooled Engine
4) Link type moncross suspension
5) Clip Ons
6) 6 Speed gearbox
7) Aerodynamically styled fairing, its not just a cosmetic job
8 Twin 35 watt headlamps
9) R1 styled speedo console
10) Sophisticated fuel injection system
11) Lighter pistons
12) Yamaha’s international manufacturing technology like the Diasil Cylinder, explained elesewhere.
Thats beside a more powerful engine and I still havent come to Yamaha quality which is brilliant and intangibles like better engineering overall. The premuim they are charging is well worth it since R15 is a revolutionary bike. Some of technology on the bike is never seen before in the Indian bike market.

evrything is true … and I could not have agreed more but there is just one thing that bothers me .. how did yamaha decide to stick to a 150 cc plan? was it to keep the prices under control or did yamaha think this will the best segment for a long long time to come … I mean if you are going all out to show your performance thing why not do it in 250 cc bracket atleast or in worst case atleast touch 200 cc?

guys,we’re talking abt thunderbird and not the R15.

» Sanjeev, Surat said: { Jun 21, 2008 - 01:06:08 }

This forum is for the Thunderbird and the guys drifted to something they are indirectly indicating. ‘another machismo?!!!! Not again’. Refinement, performance, handling, finish, efficiency- all are little alien to this brand. Let the Germans redo it…..it will be second only to Harley’s…

I have taken thunderbird twinspark last week. I have taken test drive all the vehicles what you talked. Thunderbird may be lack in technology compare than other bikes. But its really worthy when you ride. Its a horse not a toy bike. But I won’t recommend this for city ride.

Have they sold even one bike. It looks stupid with the kind of technology around like swirl of the hondas, the exhaustec of the bajaj , the roller bearings, REM is still going around with tappets and like the old tech, will take ages to improve. WHo knows this nike will be a total failure, now they have put the self start on the behind. My friend had bought a machismo ,while riding in the city it came to a complete dead halt, seems there was a prob with the cdi, have you ever heard of these things in a general bike. I have seen chains suddenly coming off ina bullet on the ring road and the guy had lost balance and fallen. Anyways they are selling feww hundred bikes a mth

DEAR FRIENDS, I HAVE BEEN A BIKER AT HEART AND RODE KAWASAKI RTZ AND AFTER THAT SUZUKI SHOGUN DURING MY COLLEGE DAYS. I DID A 5000KMS TOUR OF SOUTH INDIA ON MY SUZUKI SHOGUN. NOW AT 38 YRS, I WANTED TO RIDE AGAIN, AS I GOT BORED OF MY CAR. I BOUGHT A BULLET THUNDERBIRD TWINSPARK ON 9TH OCT. ALREADY DONE THE FIRST FREE SERVICE AT 500KMS. THE BIKE GAVE A MILEAGE OF 50KMS/LITRE. IT PULLS AMAZINGLY AND STARTS IN HALF KICK OR IMMEDIATELY WITH THE ELECTRIC STARTER. NO CHOKE IS NEEDED EVEN DURING THE FIRST START OF THE DAY. THIS IS A VERY GOOD CITY BIKE TOO. THE HANDLING IS SUPERB, PULLS IN 4TH GEAR AT LOW CITY SPEEDS OF 25 TO 30KMS/HR. BRAKING IS TOO GOOD.
AFTER THE FIRST SERVICE, THE VIBRATIONS ARE NEARLY GONE, THE GEAR SHIFT HAS SMOOTHENED AND ABOVE 40KMS/HR SPEED, THE BIKE IS VERY VERY SMOOTH. I WILL RECOMMEND THIS BIKE OVER ANY OTHER BIKE.

I own The Royal Enfield Twinspark….its just magic….one of the most beautiful machines ever rolled by RE….all those who really die to go for a plastic toy like pulsar or others…i tell you just once try out Thunderbird Twinspark in Delhi and on Highways….its just purfect…you don’t have to carry it on your head you have to ride it and believe me it is not that you are doing a bentch press of 200 kg…it is as smooth and manuverable as other motorcycles..but it is better than rest…after Lightnning 535…Twin spark is the best sofar….don’t believe me take a ride and please not that 100 meter test ride…just go for at least few kms and only they you will know how it tackles the bloody traffic and ofcourse the openroads….its just beautiful…and still you are not convinced…kindly go for a plastic japanese toy……

hi guys, after much of confusion between machismo 350 ( for its look) and thinderbird twinspark .. and much of analysis i came to know that thinderbird is better except for ground clearance wh is less in thndrd making the main stand strking the speed brakers at afaster speed.

For all of you guys, who are preparing a long list of new high tech super bikes.
let me tell you something, you Can have any number of cylinders in your engine.
hundreds of horsepower and super slick handling. your bike can be unbreakable one.

But these can never replace a Genuine RE. Thumper.. these are the bikes that can only be as good as you can be. … They break down in midle of no-where. but remember they can be fixed in no time without much hasle. only thing is you should have enough brains in your head to understand the problem… isn’t it the exact way in which you maintain your relationships.

You need to maintain your thumper, or else just like a bad relationship it’s going to whack you up.

This is what real biking is all about….

you can ride your fancy sports bike to thousands of miles without a single stop and call it biking, but trust me, the moment you get to your destination you will completely forget about the bike and the journey you took. My suggestion rather than using these for biking, Go take a bus or train….

you may say that RE bikes are not good for city driving…. but again a good rider will never pass this kind of comment.

as far as reliability is considered my bike has seen 3 generations. My Grandfather bought an RE Bullet Classic… My father maintained it for 18 years and i have been riding it for 5 Years..

i gifted the bird to myself last diwali and this has been the best gift by far,,,

the smoothest ride and a very responsive engine, i haven’t faced any prob at all till now.

i’ve done 4k kms incl. 2 trips down d highway and an off-roader when i actually felt the power of this beast,,, it tore through every obstacle without any problems at all,,,

however i do feel that the front wheel balance on the bird is slightly on the negative as far as the other enfield’s are concerned,,, doen’t feel that heavy or glued to the road at higher speeds (100kmph+),,, i have done a 115kmph though,,,

very good in the city as well with no problems cornering and cutting through traffic probably because of its sheer power

all in all, a great looker with a very very refined ride quality and superb mileage,,,

go for it,,, won’t regret it,,,

:!: :!: :!: once an enfield,,, always an enfield :!: :!: :!:

Hi Friends, I’m very happy & oriented after reading the comments … Actually i was never in the favour of RE bike because of their starting problems .. because during my Engg days, i used to be first chap to leave the hostel premises on my Bajaj bike & leaving RE chaps , facing the staring problems…
But last week i had taken a test ride at IIT Campus for the first time in my life of a RE bike & that too Thunderbird TS, I’m amazed to ride the bike & felt the pick up of this giant Bike…
I’m satisfied and might go for the bike within a day or 2 but i’ve one question from the existing users.. Please tell me about the maintenance aspect of RE , TS , beacuse till now no body has highlighted this aspect of this bike.. Will the periodical servicing is enough for the maintennace of this bike or u will have to really work hard/put money to keep it fit.. pls reply this thanx

wow!! thunderbird is really good 1 in da world. my dad n me came frm goa to kathmandu it was really amaying to sit in it n ride it. it is really good to ride it but it is little bit heavy. it has got reaLLY NICE ENGINE. it has really good power n pik up. there is indidan number plate so every day we hav to pay 110 rs to goverment n in 45 dazs again we hav to go n get a valid number plate. so there is little bit problem to us. to manke nepali number plate we neen nearly one lakh 50 thousand.

RE’s TbTs is most amazing bike i have ever owned.
It’s IRON not PLASTIC.

» Ryan said: { Oct 13, 2009 - 01:10:59 }

@Mohit: You have that wrong. The TBTS has a AVL engine. It’s not a iron engine.

hey rathi,
i own a thunder bird ts for the past 7mts its doing gr8 infact gr8 is not the word to be used but sum thing more tan tat…it jus goes as smooth as water from a tap..i was out for a ride on nice roads and u beleive o not my s.o.m was knocking the doors at 132kms, oh my god tat feel was amazing jus coz it was a thunderbird..how ever toys like karizma n pulsars fly for the wind and touch 135 o 137 which jus cant be compared wit r.e engines…however bird goes max of 115 on city roads leaving front the others plastic toys.. jus be patient coz thunder bird is totally different which is best designed to feel each n every k.m u ride…but u can always kick ter ass wen it cums to highways baby..sorry i jus cant stop telling bot the performance of the bike, trust me its worth it..anyways talking bot the MAINTAINENCE OF THE BIKE its jus like maintaining a 150cc bike…u don hav to shell out those extra maintainence charges…u ll have 4 free services wer in each free service will cost u jus 150bucks for the labour charge…if its a paid service it shouldnt be costing u max more than 1grand…the highlight of the bike is its milege, if maintained properly in 60kms/hr for the first 1000 kms(i know its pretty hard, but riding fullthrottle once in a while will not harm the beast) no doubt it will giv u any wer between 43-45(i know tats cool)..so i guess tis information is enough for u to kickstart the journey of a real biker..hope u too will catch those crawling snakes like karizma n pulsars on the highways wit the thunder of the bird jus like i did…be proud to own a thunderbird..all the best..

HI

Simple yaar - Drive Thunderbird for 3 days, later any other bike driven make you feel like you are on a bicycle.

Secondly royal experience - I went to a star hotel to meet one of my friend,It was a festive occation and a party was eventually organised in that hotel,a sign board was there saying “no parking for two wheelers here”,I saw and was taking a turn to park outside, the minute the hotel security saw me,he called me sir,”pls park your bike in this area”,I GOT A ROYAL SPACE TO PARK BETWEEN BENZ & JAGUAR…….

ROYAL EXPERIENCE,REALLY…
