SCOOP PICS: MARUTI SUZUKI SPLASH AND A-STAR!

Maruti Suzuki A-Star

Maruti is on an ’all-out attack’ mode. Close on the heels of launching the successful Swift Dzire, which has already taken the lower mid-size segment by storm and tornado and a very touching new marketing campaign ”India Comes Home In A Maruti Suzuki”, here come the scoop pictures for another set hotly anticipated cars from the manufacturer, the A-Star and the Splash.

The styling from the original A-Star concept shown at the Delhi Auto Expo 2008 has been toned down a lot, front and back. The styling now is more mainstream compared to the very flamboyant concept. The car still looks modern though and ‘cute’ from the front while the rear is dominated by a huge bumper and a short tailgate, looks like a grown up Alto. The interiors look great too for a budget hatch with swooping dashboard and huge A/C vents in the middle and circular vents for the sides. The HVAC controls are circular just like other Maruti hatches and are placed at almost same level as the Swift. An interesting touch is the tachometer console which sprouts from the dashboard and looks very much aftermarket, very ‘boy racer’ types, which goes along well with the overall personality of the car.

  Maruti Suzuki Splash

The other model, Splash remains true to what was shown in the Delhi Auto Expo 2008. The car very good looking and the styling especially at the back is very bold with those huge tail lights that reach the roof and a ’scooped out’ tailgate. A good news for the potential car buyers is that the Splash will also come with a Diesel engine right from the outset. Have a look at the black Splash pics posted here, the badging at the back say ‘VDi’ while the white Splash is ‘VXi’. The interiors are nice to dominated by huge AC vents and again the same ’sprouting from the dashboard’ tachometer pod. The gear lever placement is the same as the Hyundai i10 and the latest from Maruti is going to take it, head on. Though no launch dates have been forthcoming so far, expect them to be launched in the very near future. Interesting time ahead…. Keep watching this space for more.

I am still wondering why you don’t link to the original post? Are you still so scared of readers not returning to your blog?

Please learn to give credit where it is due!

Nice looking cars, both. In fact, I am very impressed with how the A Star has turned out even after toning down the styling from the concept car.

@Glifford: The source isnt exactly team-bhp but the user Chevelle from team-bhp which is what I have mentioned. Besides, the pictures have been taken from orkut from some guy names “ronnit” so they aren’t exactly ’sources’ pictures either. I am trying to find the guy on orkut, would you like to help?
Its easy to criticize and easier to ‘write’ but as always we will take it positively.

People post all sorts of links within the comments but after our intial policy of masking them we are allowing them to be there, simply because it means even more information for our readers.

@ Glifford
I think its not right to always criticize in such manner as long as these guys are giving the Source in the post name. They have given the Website as well as the Forum Member Name over there.
A blog is a medium to share any kind of stuff you like with the proper source if any.
If I am correct, you have said this thing in the past too and now the source(if any) is always mentioned in the post.
@ Admin
Thanks a bunch for doing such a tremendous job. Now people like me have a single place where we can see every kind of news about India Auto Industry.
Keep it up !!

Hi
Saw the pictures of a-star and splash here, so thought to write a note to admin

as i have mentioned in the blog at team-bhp, the pictures are taken by RONIIT, so i had recommend that in the source you include his name first and than include mine.

That ways the credit will go to him for taking those pictures from whom i took the permission to post on team-bhp.

I hope you can oblige me wid this much.

Thanks

Hi Admin and Auto Maniac,

While I too appreciate the kind of information this blog provides, please understand credit needs to be given where it is due.

There are several other international blogs that run on the very same concept and diligently provide links to the original source as well as thank the person who pointed them to that source as well!

Now if this site was a pure hobbyists site, with no profit motive, just sharing info among friends… I see no issue.

But here very clearly there are a number of very targetted ads. HDFC Auto-Finance, Bosch etc. to name a few. While it may not be profitable as yet, the intent is surely there. So in this case it is your duty to give credit where it is due!

Yes I have been very critical of (what I considered then) plagiarism when I found it. And also been appreciative of changes made after my suggestions. But giving credit where it is due.. more so when it is not self generated content… is basic netiquette!

And as I said before, keep up the good work. It is nice to read your blog.

Cheers,

Glifford.

guyzzz!!!!

there is a major mistake here…..
the splash “scoop” is spot on…..
but the “so-called” a-star in actual is the all new “ALTO”.

Yes….

The pic is of the all new alto which is to be replaced globally. check out the back lights for a clue…. they are similar. the new alto would be produced and sourced globally from india.

MS Launches to come soon:-

1. Splash [around diwali]2008
2. New Alto [year end of beginning of 2009]
3. A-Star [Mid-2009]

abhik,

the name a-star has been mentioned because thats what reportedly the maruti guy standing there gave information. its not like we are saying this on our own.

indeed this is a replacement to alto and it is a know fact. and in all possibility they are not going to name it a-star they are gonna continue wid name alto only.

if you see the source, that is team-bhp, there also it is mentioned it is the new alto due in late 2008 or early 2009.

so my friend, don’t be suprised that the concept a-star never makes it to production instead more models are ripped off on same design.

Though i wud love to see the concept a-star in production, but the news are from maruti guy. You may argue that the information given by that guy was wrong but unless something concrete comes up we may believe this to be a-star aka ‘new alto’.

chill till we get definite information about the model names. keep drooling

abhik, if you look at the front end of the one shown in picture that is the first one, please compare it to the front end of suzuki a-star concept, u will find lots of similiarity between the two.

the grille also is same, in the concept, there is a-star concept written between the grille whereas in the first picture it will hold the license plate,

again at the rear if u see closely where the tail lamp starts and joins the rear windshield, u will see a minor recess which is similar to rear end of concept a-star, they have tuned it to make it more viable for production. as for rear tail lights, obviously they were not gonna design the same as the one in the concept so they took much more practical tail lights.

the third point of similarity is that the windows line which is almost same in both the concept and the one shown in picture as they both have sliding line that is higher windows from rear and slopes down to meet the orvm’s.

i m just comparing because of your remarks, i may be wrong but i found the similarity between the two that’s why i mentioned it.

No offence meant

no question of any offence buddy…..

we all are crazy bike & car lovers…. i mean to start no confrontation or argument…. actuall i refered the news to one of my friend working with m.suzuki. he says…. the test model of a-star has not yet been manufactured.

moreover.. the guyz alongside the cars are marketing people[maybe …. as i dnt knw] and we all know that all sales and marketing people are outsourced employees[not in direct payroll] and thus they do not have any information and only spresd rumors.

if you visit a showroom… people dnt even knw that spark is coming soon….
.[ yes we do know better than those sales &marketing people]

thats… exactly why i am saying only people within the company knows abt all this policies and its all highly confidential.

i have got this info from a frnd. that’s it.

lets have more views on this… as someone else may knw better… any relatives of mr. khattar maybe….

@ chevelle —- great observations bro!!!!

thanx…..

abhik

the guy who told about these cars was the person in charge of transporting the cars safely from their factory to some test area. so the info could be right or wrong.

i know how the marketing guys are. they don’t even knw the bhp of any particular car already in showroom let alone the info about the one that is still not in production.

let me tell you, if a-star comes in production it would be awesome, but i doubt making same like concept would be feasible at such low cost price. wat with excellent LED’s and all that stuff. lets pray.

ya and definitely, it cud b tht ur frnd is right, absolutely right, but i couldn’t help comparing both of them and i found similarity so i thought may b that’s the a-star, thts it.

anyways, lets wait and watch, wats in store for us from these guys, hoping for the best
