SKODA FABIA WITH A NEW 4 CYLINDER DIESEL???

 Skoda Fabia

Although a new entrant in the market, Skoda’s youngest child in India has been criticized for low powered engine besides the sky high price. The 1.4 Tdi motor in Fabia has adequate performance but isnt even remotely quick. For a car which cost more than some of the more accomplished 3-box cars in the market, the engine is a major let-down. Also the fact that the 1.4 Motors is a 3-cylinder unit, makes it inherently noisy and unrefined.

To compensate matters, Skoda is considering launching the Fabia with a new 4 Cylinder diesel. Our guess is the 1.9 engine from the Skoda which has been here for long and is reasonably refined, very fuel efficient and reliable.

 Keep watching this space.

I think the 1.9 engine wont be sensible at all, since they wont get the excise benefit plus th expense.

Cheers

you are spot on your pointing out the loosing to excise duty benefit if at all fabia is upgraded to 1.9 PD TDI (existing in other countries). 1.9PDI would be a scorcher ofcourse but then the on-roed price will overshoot 11lacs. Scenorios can be as follows;
1. reduction in Fabia’s present models & upgrade including with all “laura’s feature” engine. Also the same engine already existing with Skoda can give them some price benefit.
2. They can use the octavia’s engine which is already a phased out model in other countries and can be carried on to the Fabia and price it to in such a way that volumes rather than high price earns them profit.
Indigenisation is also an important way to bring down price & spares price post-sales.

Even without this engine upgrade, fabia is a very good bye for it’s top-notch interior & build quality. The pricing is a tad inflated from Indian market point of view. But surveying the overall car ownership experience & sense of pride, this car is a way to go. however, having said that the best way to know what is in store for you for the money you are spending it is always best to visit the dealer and have the first hand feel. the extra cost spare for this brand won’t hurt you (take my word).
