TARA TINY/TITU - WORLD CHEAPEST ELECTRIC CARS FOR $2475

Tara_Tiny

Tata Nano ($ 2500) is no longer the world’s cheapest car. Two Electric Cars Tara Tiny & Tara Titu are now claiming to be the cheapest Cars in the World.

Tara Tinu is a 2 - seater, while Tara Titu is 4 - seater and they are priced at Rs $ 2450 each. Both the cars have been developed by a less known company Tara International. The Company has teamed up with China’s $1.5-billion Aucma to source components for this car. Tara Tiny, unlike nano or other small cars is not polluter, it is an zero emission, four-seater, battery-powered electric car with a top speed of 69 Kmph and a can cover a range of 100KM.

The electric cars have 35 moving parts and its gasoline counterparts have more than 2500 moving parts. Fewer parts means easy and cheaper servicing. Electric cars also do not require any oil, filters and coolant. The only disadvantage is the max speed of 50 km/hr (31 mph). The Tara series cars are available in electric red, black and white. The company also plans to unveil few other electric car labels which will be branded as Tara Micro and Tara Mini.

I doubt if it this will sell. Most parts of the country have very long power cuts and breakdowns, especially during the summer and that would mean that people will not be able to charge the cars. However, I could be wrong. One will have to wait to see the fit and finish. One question, how are these cars selling so cheap when the Reva is ridiculously expensive?

I could nto agree more with you Satish, very well put up, there is quite alot of load shedding going on and it will be difficult to charge the cars. Also the fit and finish doesnot seem even average from the pics.

The Reva uses more expensive components as the parts of the Reva are made in India itself and not got from China. The finish of the Reva though nothing to talk about, is still ages ahead of this Tara Tiny/Titu. The Nano might be 50$ expensive but its worth every penny, since it looks good and has very good fit and finish.

Now some one will make a 2449$ car and claim to have made the cheapest car.

There are more disadvantages of electric cars then what meets the eye, batteries have to be replaced every 2 years and they cost around 80000 to replace, so its not all that cheap as its made out to be & imagine plugging your car every night to charge your car just like how you do with your cell phone, not the brightest idea i would say.

Cheers

Yes the price war thing is ridiculous. You are right about the Nano. I do not think any other car maker of electric or anyother car will be able to match the quality that comes along with the price. The TATAs have been facing a lot of flack but I think they will deliver in the end.

Electric cars are nice for people who do not require high speed but instead need to commute in the city and park in crowded places. Here the top speed of 50 km/h will not be a deterent. The inside finish of the car appears to be rather good. Full marks here for the chinese. Yes competition will arrive for the Nano in good time but NANO is in a different league. It should not be compared with an electric car. One also hopes that the replacement batteries will also be very cheap, since this will be required after about 2 years.

Agreed that Tara is not going to have the looks of Nano and not as sturdy too. Look at the positive aspects. No fuel, no oil and low cost. What a blessing to reduce environmental pollution. Tara is only a first attempt. Hopefully we should have better versions with better road compliant vehicles.
Lets us also understand that these new generation small and low cost cars are going to burden the existing roadways. Our planners need to pull up their socks!! (guess we had no serious planners so far!)
