After acquiring the Jaguar and Land Rover, Tata Motors is now eyeing the General Motors iconic brand - Hummer.

General Motors has stopped producing the “BIG” Hummer as it closed production out of its four plants that construct pickup trucks and SUV. The CEO of General Motors, Mr. Rick Wagoner had said, “all options for the complete sale of Hummer brand are being considered. The complete sale would also include the revamp of product line.”

As per the latest reports floating in the market, India’s leading Automakers - Tata Motors and the Mahindra (M&M) are interested in this “American” brand. Tata and Mahindra have also been in the hunt in the past for Jaguar/Land Rover and as reported, both the companies are presently bidding for MV Agusta too.

This deal could be really rewarding for both the companies as the Hummer Brand enjoys a great Global presence. The Hummer recorded a 35% drop in sales in the first half of this calendar year. Last year, it saw an over 20% drop in sales. Hummers account for just 1% of GM’s total sales.

GM bought the Hummer brand in 1999, following which it has launched two new products-the H1 and H2.
