Tata Motors July Sales Increase
Country’s largest commercial vehicle maker and third largest passenger car maker Tata has recorded an overall growth in sales for the month of July 09.
The passenger car unit reported total sales and distribution offtake of 19,881 units (17,191 Tata + 2690 Fiat) in the domestic market in July 09, a massive 32% increase compared to 15,064 units (14,652 Tata + 412 Fiat) in July 08 last year.
Sales of Tata Cars stood at 14,537 units growing by 21% over July 08. Despatches of the Tata Nano also begun this month with sales at 2,475 units. The Indica range sold a total of 8,563 cars, a growth of 14% compared to July last year. The Indigo range recorded sales of 3,499 units, lower by 22% over July last year.
The SUV/MUV range which consists of the Sumo and Safari accounted for sales of 2,638 units, flat compared to July last year.
Tata Motors also began the sales and deliveries of the Jaguar and Land Rover range through a flagship showroom in Mumbai. The response according to the company has been encouraging in the first month with the initial India stock and pipeline imports booked to a large extent.
As far as the commerical vehicle sector is concerned, the company sold a total of 48,054 units in July 09, a growth of over 18% when compared to July 08 when it sold 40,729 units. The domestic commercial vehicle sales stood at 45,599 units, a healthy 23% up over 37,033 units sold during the same month last year.
The sales from export saw a decline by 34% at 2,455 units compared to 3,696 units a year earlier. The cumulative sales from exports for the fiscal at 7,676 nos. were lower by 40% over 12,855 nos. in the same period last year.
