Tata Nano - the most eagerly awaited automobile of the century will be available in October 2008, rolling out from the Singur factory (West Bengal).

Despite delays in the allocation of land and building of the plant Tata Motors is on track with the production timeline. “The equipment is now beginning to come and we will start putting up the equipment. Weld shop, press shop, paint shop, assembly shop, engine shop are all priority areas. Plus, the service areas are all being worked out, and we do hope that things go on barring very unforeseen circumstances like the rains we had,” Managing Director Ravi Kant told reporters, after surveying the construction work at its new unit about 40 kilometers from the eastern city of Kolkata in West Bengal.

“Plant equipment will arrive shortly,” he said. Tata has said it will initially produce about 250,000 Nanos and expects eventual annual demand of one million units.
