TOYOTA COROLLA ALTIS LAUNCHED!
Â
Japanese auto major, Toyota Motor Corporation has launched the 10th generation Corolla Altis in the Indian market today. The car comes in three variants and is priced between Rs 10.83 Lakhs and Rs. 12.86 Lakhs (All Prices Ex-Showroom Delhi) for the top end automatic with 4 Speed automatic gearbox with sequential manual shift.
The top end model comes with ‘first for its segment’ features like, HID Lamps, Auto Dimming inside rear veiw mirror, headlamp washers, 8-way power adjustable driver seats with electric lumber support and even cruise control.
The car comes with a 1.8 Litre petrol version with 130 bhp on tap, up 7 bhp from the previous Corolla. The Toyota engineers have worked on the engine to improve the fuel efficiency which is claimed to be the same as the outgoing version even though the engine delivers more power and torque and the car itself is heavier.
“This year’s target is to sell 63,000 vehicles, and by fiscal 2015 we are aiming for a market share of about 10 per cent. The Altis marks our big step toward the achievement of this goal,” Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) Vice-Chairman Vikram Kirloskar said.
The company aims to capture 10% share of the Indian car market by 2015, instead of the earlier announcement which said 2010, which Toyota officials admitted was an over ambitious target.
The biggest announcement of the evening was the launch of a small car in the Indian market by 2010 which would help Toyota achieve its targets for the Indian market.
The company earlier had announced an investment of Rs 1,400 crore in setting up its second manufacturing facility in Bangalore to launch a strategic small car for the Indian market within the next two years.
“Regarding the small car that everyone has been waiting for, we aim to start production and sales around 2010 or early 2011,” Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM)Â Vice-Chairman, Vikram Kirloskar said.
The new Corolla Altis will be advertised heavily in the coming days. The company will soon launch an advertising blitzkrieg with over 100 events planned simultaneously all over the country in shopping malls airports and other public places.
TKM aims to sell an average of 2000 Corolla’s every month.

The New Corolla is so good, it is better then the Civic too.
U hav some good goodies n safety features. But IN STYLING CIVIC ALWAYS ROCKS
Guys i find the Civic much more appealing, but the Altis is so much more value for money. Which one to pick?
This new Toyota Corolla Altis is really cool and better than ever!!…this time i am really impressed with toyota!
its available with alot of useful features at compartively low price.Keep it up toyota!!
all the hoopla of the launch has not really caught the fever yet. The launch should have accompanied delivery of the booked cars and the presence should have marked the day. But all seems reserved for the festive season next month.
The car is not a beamer out of the blue. very predictable design & layout. Nothing in the category of the civic. yet it is feature packed and extremely decent. the wider looks appears to shorten the big car feel. parking sensors could have been standard in the upper variant.
dear mr. vt. if you compare. eye for an eye, altis is better value for money. civic is costlier and is due for an upgrade soon. altis definitely seems to be a better bet. however, having said that, civic’c design is more contemporary and looks bigger & sportier without those fenders/spoilers around. both cars almost win on quality and technology. if you can get a discounted civic after the upgraded version is announced (just like corolla), it will save you some bucks.
Saw Altis yesterday but not impressed with the looks when compared to Civic.
Sanjeev, the Civic is not due for any upgrade yet. It will be upgraded after a few years. The minor facelift has arrived though in Japan, and its way to minor to differentiate anything
If given the choice I think I would take the Civic over the Corolla any day, not been a fan of the Corolla at all
dear sp, you spoke my mind. i just had a sight of onroad presence of approaching altis. it looked, (heavy heartedly), pathetic. the upfront grill looked like a bad nose-job 7 the overall length looked shorter and unimpressive. the new civic ‘facelift’ is subtle but very impressive. even with this slight upgrade, civic wins hands down.
Toyota Corolla is one of my favorite cars. it is simply reliable and last for a very long time.
