TOYOTA COROLLA ALTIS TO DEBUT ON 5TH SEPTEMBER!

 Corolla Altis Teaser Website

We finally have the launch date for the next generation Toyota Corolla. Called the Corolla Altis, the car will debut on 5th September. Toyota this time around too is banking heavily on the ‘quality’ aspect, something which has made Toyota what it is today. You can also visit the smart teaser website which is already up @ Corolla Teaser Site

The website apart from the teaser image of the car, also has owner testimonials for its other models under the “quality stories” section. The car will be in select Toyota showrooms before the launch.

The new Altis will have the tweaked version of the existing petrol engine with 132 bhp on tap and improved fuel efficiency. There will be no diesel variant for the time being.

The styling mirrors the big sister Camry with the same treatement to the front. In profile the car looks like a mini Camry which is expected to go down well with the buyers who dont like the sharp and futuristic styling of the Honda Civic.

The car will come with a manual and an automatic transmission both. The automatic transmission will be a four speed automatic with sequential multi mode and paddle shift just like its arch rival Honda Civic.

Corolla Altis Dimensions

The new Corolla Altis (4540mm) is slightly shorter compared to the Civic (4545mm) but is slightly wider (1760mm Vs 1750mm). Civic’s wheelbase though  is a generous 2700mm compared to the new Altis at 2600mm.

Other notable features include HID headlamps, headlamp washers, multi-information display which tell you the time, outside temperature, average speed and the fuel consumption, sliding armrest at the front and an electro chromatic rear view mirror, a first for its segment, it uses detects ambient light and the glare of vehicles approaching from behind and automatically adjusts the dimming to give just the right amount of rear vision and glare protection to the driver, cruise control, stick remote and even electric seats!

Safety features include multiple Air bags, ABS + EBD. The car will come in three variants - a low end manual, top end manual and top end automatic.

The pricing and version wise details are still unknown.

The new Corolla will be overpriced as Toyota plans to launch it at 14 Lacs.

The car looks so much like a Camry and that means Camry owners maybe unhappy paying more for a car that looks like a cheaper and smaller sibling.

with the 13.5 lakhs price tag for the low end variant it is going to be atleast 1.5 lacs dearer than the 1.8 v civicand the top end is a shade below the accord price).are they trying to pitch the altis between civic & accord.this will certainly deter so many potential customers from buying altis (they would rather prefer civic or put in a another 1.5 lacs and buy the accord); at this price the altis will go the jetta way which by the way is ridiculosly overpriced.

Have to agree price tag far to high and it looks similar to the Camry.

A 8-10 Lakh Range will do !

if toyota go ahead with the proposed price structure(13.5 to 15 lacs many a potential customers just like me who have been eagerly awaiting the altis launch and postponing their purchase for the past few months will be in a catch 22 situation.
having missed out on the value for money civic 1.8 s( was priced at 11.42 lacs) and now the ever increasing emi’s in the last few months, the buyers will be left with no other option but to buy 1.8 v civic at 12 lacs instead of the altis priced a lac above the top end civic 1.8v and intoyota with their endeavour for ‘ a quality revolution’ willwill again lose the volume game to honda civic

I happened to have the first look of the Corolla Altis at the show room as an invitee for the pre-launch ceremony. The first impression has been of a totally different car. It shouldn’t be corolla altis. Altis will suffice. Following are the salient points which are notably different from the corolla’
1. It has three basic variants starting at 12 plus lacs on road to 14 plus for the top variant (AT-5 speed with sequential shift)
2. The front bonnet area is wider resembling the elder sibling Camry. The bonnet is wider & seems shorter & the 1.8 VVTi engine sits comfortably with a good gap from the front impact zone/bumper.
3. The middle & top variant has xenon lamps and leather upholstery.
4. AT variant comes with cruise control.
5. Rear end has been improved significantly. The vertical flat look has been curved and has been provided with a pleasant hunch.
6. The driver seat is 8 ways power adjustable.
7. The fog lamps are functionally rounded to look more piercing.
8. Boot space has been enhanced with more vertical space.
9. Displays & interiors are very well made & oozes quality. 7
10. Small 7 different functions in the trip meter, average speed, fuel average etc. added to the dash.
11. Power washers for head lamps.
12. 125 in old corolla to 132ps engine (much more refined & silent)
13. The yawning gaps between the tyre & fenders have been reduced and looks appropriate to 15″ rim size.
The missing things I still feel should have been incorporated;
1. Reading lamps at the rear (as in civic)
2. Parking sensors
All in all it is superior looking, ore featured and refreshing than the Civic and cheaper by almost a lac. And also the legendary Toyota service will finally push more nails on the coffins of the competition.

As all of the unfounded fears & guesses of the price has come to an end. The Altis priced lower than than the civic. Top variant (fully loaded with 5 speed AT sequential shift) will be available at 14.3 lacs (on road). That is equivalent to the V (MT) variant of Civic (in the same city)

there is not a bit of internal space alteration. Interiors are almost re-borrowed from earlier (see roof & courtsey lamps).

Agree with Amandeep. I too was at the launch. Also, went again the next day with a friend. It is not comfortable for passengers in the back. Feels cramped and leg space is non-existent. Its a great car to drive but disappointing to be driven in.

Taller guys will always have problems in these segment of cars. SUVs/MUVs hold some extra space but with a premium. it sometimes makes sense to own a second hand camry or accords rather than buying new mid-sizers. these are really come cheap.

mr. sanjeev, surat seems to be really biased about the altis and will surely not accept any bad but true facts above the same; mr. r parsad will probably agree with me.
