Whenever I hear of the launch of an autorickshaw I feel tremendously disheartened. Years of driving has demonstrated that the biggest problems pertaining to traffic are caused due to autorickshaws. I know that people say that it is nippy vehicle that can zip through small places but it is this very quality which makes it a menace on city roads. The top has no aperture at the back that may allow the driver to see what is behind, the front is narrower than the rest of the vehicle and it has a very small turning radius. These features assure us of very bad driving by the autorikshaw drivers. Turn as you please with no care about who is behind or who is at the side. I was hoping that the advent of cars like Nano and the Bajaj Lite would lead to the phasing out of autorickshaws, but TVS launches one at this time. I simply see it as more menace on the roads.
@Satish
Thanks for writing in.
While I agree with you on some points, I beg to be different on others. TVS as a company cannot rein in bad drivers, that is left for the traffic police to look after. But yes I think these slow moving auto’s are a nuisance for fast moving traffic on the roads. In delhi you will come across many these going merrily at 30-40 kph in the fast lane and no amount of honking will budge them, unless and until you have a safari or a scorpio and you brake within two inch of hitting them out of the way.
On a serious note there are positives and negetives to everything and there are people who can’t do without these when taxi cabs are very expensive and public transport is unsafe.
Why Two stroke is allowed after all? In practical scenarios it will not meet any emission standards. They can show that it will match emission standards in testing environments. Once on the road and logging 10000kms it will beltch smoke like anything. That is why we must go for a ban of two strokes all together. Even in LPG guise if you are after an auto in a city traffic, you will feel nausea and vomiting. One more idea I have to give the traffic makers. All SUV, HCV, MCV, BUS, Truck, Peoples carries should have their exhaust directed upwards. There should be some law to make it happen. Otherwise all city dwellers will die of lung cancer at an early age. TVS should reconsider their engine offering. The sooner the better. Thank God that Bajaj did not patent the type of vehicle under 300cc and running on three wheels and engine at the rear end. TVS can try patenting it. May be known arts get patent if applied in India the same way as twin spark. My heary condolense to TVS for loosing the case. Let us teach Bajaj a lesson. Put a four valve engine, fuel injection and 5 gears into Flame. Let them eat the dust. You can claim 150kmpl in bargain. My advice to TVS is to revamp their scooty at the earliest before it loose the gobbled up market share. Do you guys know that Chennai is a place where you can find autos with expansion chambers fitted and capable of reaching 100kmph? Once I spotted a heavily modded auto carrying people.
