VOLKSWAGEN TO BRING VW UP! IN INDIA @ RS 3 LAKHS

Global car makers are making a beeline to roll out their Budget Cars in the largest Small car market of the world and the latest one to make entry after Toyota, General Motors, Hyundai & Bajaj Auto is the Europe’s largest car maker, Volkswagen.

VW plans to roll out its low-priced car VW Up! by 2010-11. The Car would be priced around Rs 3 lakh and It will be the cheapest car from the Volkswagen stable.Volkswagen India President & MD Joerg Mueller told “We are not in the Tata Nano segment, but have a similar high technology small car that conforms to world safety and emission standards. UP! is currently in the concept stage and will be available in India in the next three years. The car makes perfect sense for India, which has many metros and cities that are faced with parking and pollution problems.”

“We will compete will other car manufacturers on price. We will utilise Volkswagen Group’s twin plants at Aurangabad and upcoming Pune facility to drive economics of scale for India specific prices,” Mr Mueller said.

The Company also plans to bring in the Polo hatchback. Both the two models will be built in VW’s new plant in Chakan, near Pune.

The up! interior is made to seat 4 adults in comfort and featured a unique flat folding seat system.The seats are air inflatable so the seats fit every body shape. up! also has a unique central displays, two monitors, one 8 inch monitor shows the vehicle speed, fuel level and range, as well as your CO2 emissions.

The second 7 inch monitor controls climate control, radio volume, music selection, telephone, navigation, photos and movies etc. up! measures 3.45 metres / 135.8 inches and has a width of 1.63 metres / 64.2 inches.

The dash seems quite basic, but you cant expect much from a car costing 3 Lacs.
