FZ15 shown at the Auto Expo 2008 is FZ16 now. The media launch of the bike will take place tomorrow in Goa but we have the specs of the new Yamaha right here.

Most important figures first. The bike sports an over square carburetted 153cc engine with 14 ps @ 7500 rpm and 13.6 nm torque @ 6000 rpm. The bikes comes with electric start as standard and has a fuel tank capacity of 12 litres. Gearbox is a standard 150cc fare with 1-down 4-up, 5-forward gears.

Braking is via a Disc (267mm) Drum combination, front and rear respectively. The front suspension is a fat 41mm diameter tube with a generous 130 mm of travel while rear is a sophisticated linked type mono suspension with an impressive 120 mm of travel. .

Front tyre size is 100/80-R17 and rear is a massive power sapping 140/60-R17, both tubeless. The bike comes in a total of three colors: Lava Red, Midnight Black and Flaming Orange.

The dimensions and engineering are a massive overkill especially for a bike with 150cc engine. We sincerely hope Yamaha brings out a higher capacity version in the near future

Many Thanks to CoolGuru for the tip!

Sooppaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like Yamahas have also managed to smash the price prejudice of the FZ.
The FZ will be pegged at a mere 65 grand, well, Ex-Showroom!!!!!!

And for me, the real YIppe factor is the torque rating. For the bike weighing in at 126 kilos, 14 PS and 13.6/14 (Different ratings at different places) is stupendous!!!!!!

Just pinged couple of my frields and showed them the links. “WOW” was the response!!!
They were literally floored!!!!!

And FY, the torque figure is almost 1 Nm higher than the Apache 160 RTR!!!!!!!!!!!
So, forget the power, think about the POWER DELIVERY…..!!!!!!!!!!
As they rightly claim, it HAS to be LORD OF THE STREETS …!!!!!!!!!!

this seems to be stunning package throwing caution at the unicorns, RTrs, pulsars, cbzs. the weblink shows good finish of the cycleparts and looks extraordinarily proportioned from head to the tail. i only hope yamaha should offer higher variants with rear disc and FI too.

Why is Yamaha not launching its fully featured sports bikes in India. FZ16 though looks impressive but the engine is very small. I am looking for some pure sports bike.

» Vicky said: { Sep 21, 2008 - 06:09:04 }

The cost would be Rs.75,000/- [Panache Enterprises,Banagalore] on road.
I have booked one today and have been promised with delivery in the 3rd week of October.
I know there are merits what others have written above.
I will write my observations (de-merits) which you might want to have a look:
1. The bike has a ground clearance of 160 mm and if you hit something on your bike from the ground; it would be straight on the Exhaust chamber.
2. The quality of the rear-view mirrors is mere ordinary.
3. The quality of the Digital odo fibre body is also mere ordinary.
4. The on/off switch to other smalll components like self-start button are also mere ordinary.
5. The Exhaust Silencer is covered by Fiber plastic which looks impressive but I will leave it to you guys to think a Exhaust having a fiber covering?
6. The gear lever has no rear foot extended lever. You need to lift the gear to shift it to 2,3,4 & 5th gears.
7. The die-cast wheels does not have a neat finish. They look raw.
8. Pillon rider - might consider the comfort on this bike.
9. The brake paddle lever does not have a rubber covering and it is a cause of concern as you might slip your foot when braking on a rainy day.
The same is applicable for the Pillion rider.
10. It has no kick-start.
11. Fuel-tank capacity is less. 12 litres only (should be enough though)
12. Expected City-Mileage would be 36 km/ltr approx.

Advantages:
————-
1. one very good advantage what you have in this bike which probably very few people would know is:
You can own all the colors of this bike. There are mainly 3 plastic-fiber body parts which need to be changed to change the color of the bike [Lava Red, Midnight Black and Flaming Orange]. And they will cost you mere Rs.2000/- approx (or might be less) :grin:

2. Seating comfort is very good for the rider.
3. Yamaha claims that this is the fastest 0~60 kmph in its segment.
4. The rear Radial(Tubeless) Tyre is massive & excellent.
5. The mono-shock is excellent cushioning effect.
6. The over-all look of the bike is like a cheetah. stunted back (fuel-tank) and the small head-lamp (like the head of a cheetah). Looks amazing Animal ready to prowl.
7. There is a mis-conception of the Fuel-Tank to press on your private-parts. But in fact when you sit, you feel this animal is better than the Pulsar or others.
8. It looks sturdy/rowdy/animal but weighs equivalent to a Pulsar 150.
9. It has got a very unique sound when it vrooms…due to the way the exhaust system is designed.
10. Front Disc Brake 267mm single cross-drilled ventilated rotor with 2-pot calipers to control this animal. Biggest in this segment.
11. Front Suspension: 41mm Telescopic Forks. Biggest in its segment.
12. A negative pressure type Φ26mm carburetor with Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) contributes to outstanding engine response on the FZ16.
13. The cylinder head on the FZ16 engine is designed with especially large fins as well as a shroud (air intake cowl) to effectively direct airflow to the engine.
14. Head Lamp 12V 35W Halogen with Multifocal Reflector should give you better lighting.
15. The muscular tank looks amazing.
16. The leg rests for both rider and the pillion are foldable (spring operated).
17. 153 c.c Air-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, 2-valve. And 2 intake valves work better at high RPM
18. Lastly to state: i Love the Yamaha logo on the sides of the bike.

Thanks vicky for your input, helping all of us readers & riders to have a first ‘look’ at the machine. i am not surprised or disappointed by the plasticy finish to the console & switches to the bike. as mentioned, it is not ‘fibre’ but simply ‘plastic’. as far as exhaust covering is concerned it is rather blessing in disguise. whenever you happen scratch or damage one, replace it at very reasonable cost. And the list goes on……..let us see what more is in store.

hey guys i observed 5 spike rim of this bike it was not finished well..
its look like some one painted in home only by brush ..
wat u say guys ?!!??

» Sanjeev, Surat said: { Oct 1, 2008 - 10:10:33 }

Generally, the wheels should be powder coated for lasting & chip-resistant finish. powder coating is normally dull & gives to good overall finish. however, the FZ 16 wheel rims look disappointingly sprayed finish, as if done in a hurry. are you listening yamaha people?????????????????? i have already booked my bike and not feeling excited.

:razz: Awesome bike!!! reminds me of SUZUKI GSR and YAMAHA MT01, similar looks. cant wait for it to be lauched. but the bike costs very expensive here in nepal. u know the cost of R15, its 2,50,000 nc that makes 1,56,250 ic. and people are still riding it here. thanx vicky for the info. the seat would have been spilt, not like pulsar200 but like daelim roadwin. but its okay for the naked bike, looks good. the silencer shouldv’ve below the seat. Naked R15 with killer looks.

» nimall shrestha said: { Oct 4, 2008 - 05:10:27 }

:razz: here comes the naked streetfighter. great bike, reminds me of suzuki gsr and yamaha mt01. but the indian bikes are very expensive here in nepal. take R15, it costs 2,50,000 nc which makes 1,56,000 ic. but the guys here are still riding it. the seat should’ve been spilt. not like pulsar 200 but Daelim Roadwin, and the silencer should’ve been under the seat like Gladiator 165 which is yet to be launched. anyways, naked R15.

» nimall shrestha said: { Oct 4, 2008 - 05:10:53 }

waiting for MT015 :roll:

» Sanjeev, Surat said: { Oct 5, 2008 - 02:10:38 }

Nimall! if yu are finding r15 expensive. think before you start counting your horses for MT01s. it is 18 lacs rupees (approx.) here. fz16 is an inexpensive option for common man.

» Sanjeev, Surat said: { Oct 7, 2008 - 09:10:32 }

I mean the MT01….

» Vj said: { Oct 10, 2008 - 11:10:23 }

:twisted: hiiii
may i know the fuel efficiency of FZ 16 bike ..
without any doubts its a stunning bike , but will it be good enough to do city riding in conditions like delhi and delhi generally requires 40 to 50 km of travel every day…
so fuel inadvertly comes into play..

» Leon said: { Dec 3, 2008 - 12:12:43 }

WAT IS ITS TOP SPEED? SME SITES ARE CLAIMING 135 KPH, HOWZ DAT POSIBLE? DA O TO 60 SPEED IS FASTER THAN R15?

» abhishek said: { Mar 17, 2009 - 02:03:41 }

I bought FZ one month back. I found the ground clearance to be less. When there are two person on the bike and if you go little fast 12kmph on high bump it touches the ground. I doubt it is due to smooth rear shock. Anyways confirm before buying..

» max said: { Apr 19, 2009 - 07:04:06 }

viral, you should go for fz16. as it is the only latest trend of bike market, sporty look with good performance.
