YAMAHA YZF R15 LAUNCHED! SPECIFICATIONS CONFIRMED!

Yamaha YZF R15

Yamaha Motor India has finally launched the YZF R15. After all these months of speculation on the power output, oscillating from 16 bhp to even 22 bhp… we finally know how much power does it have…. a dissapointing 17 PS!

Although power output is quite a bit lower than what we had expected, but look at the brighter side, its the lightest 150cc bike around, atleast 20 kgs lighter than any other 150cc and 30 kgs lighter than 200+ cc’s, most aerodynamic and transmission losses we hear are minimal. And then there’s the superb delta box frame, light years ahead of the iron twin tube frames we have, which will make a Rossi out of even ordinary riders. As they say “The proof of the pudding is in the tasting” so for once please hold your horses before passing a judgment.

We will reserve our judgement until we ride the bike and so should you!

I’m not at all impressed with this product. My message to bike manufacturers is that, design the bike such that it suits everyone. While it looks hot, taller guys can’t experience this wonderful machine. I don’t know why they can’t understand this.It has become common to see more and more smallish machines coming our way.

I dont know teh full details about the V ixion…..but a sfar as i knw…the Engine of the R15 is a liquid cooled , Fi(6 hole injector system witha 26bit ecu) engine whcih has many new uniqye features:
1. Diasl Cylinder

2. Forged Pistons

Overall, the engine is different from that of the V ixon !!! IT has more power..is more revvy(acc to ppl who have tested the bike)..and is a new engine developed specially for teh R15

Re frame..well, the R15 has a delta Box frame….and i gues sthe V ixion also has that!!!

And besides this..everything is different from the V ixion

PS: The soon to be launched FZ 150 might have more similarity to the V ixion in temrs of Engine!!!!

It’s the same engine. Only retuned for more performance. Also, the frame is similar. The FZ will have an air cooled engine and a tubular frame.

Guys ,

As per data on Yamaha’s website, the conversions are

17PS = 16.76 HP

BHP = torque x rpm/5252

15*7500 /5252 = 21.42 BHP….

I think its worth the 1,05,000 Bucks.

I own a Yamha R1 and I got it for Rs 18.4 Lakhs. The R15 is like the R1 in many aspects. I feel it is really worth to go for this Beautiful Monster !!

I might even consider selling my R1 and going for the R15 Coz I get a bike almost like the R1 and i can easily make 15-16 Lakhs on sellin My R1 !!!

Hats Off Yamaha :!: :!: :!:

Way to show your cluelessness, dude.

First of all, if you paid 18.5 lakhs for an R1, you belong in an Asylum. Lets say you did. If you think yo can make 16 lakhs by selling it,

Lastly, if you’re even mildly suggesting that an R1 owner would sell it and buy a machine; ANY machine that is 1/7th it’s size, you belong in an asylum, in solitary confinement with a straight jacket coz your hands belong nowhere near a keyboard.

Thank you. That has been your reality check for the day.

:???:  The overall impression seems to be mixed. Definitely, the bike oozes quality all over and seems to be much long lasting and trouble free than any Indian bikes. However……sigh……the negatives are little to overwhelming to really go blind over the bike.
1. the head looks bulgeoned than the bottom (Wheels)
2. Susceptible to scratches & bruises when using/parking. (it really hurts)
3. The eyes (head lights) looks little oversized. Projector lamps should have been extremely appealing (ala Pulsar 220)
4. Finally, the price in 150CC category seems over board from the indian context. See how P220 failed to pick sales despite of impressive specification.
In short, it is a enthusiasts bike, aimed at younger upperclass riders who can shell out little more to fulfill their dreams.
NOT FOR THE MASSES!

I might be foolish to mention the obvious (as above). However, the price of a quality of any product increases exponentially and only the eyes of beholder knows, enjoys & appreciates its true worth.
Good luck to all the R15 buyers…..!

And my Friend, owner of R1, comparing the two bikes has gone absolutely nuts to trade R1 with R15. Hope Ganesh  you need some serious blessings to put your mind straight.

The closer look at the Bike reveals unparalleled workmanship & quality. The mountings, switches, paint job, the 6-gears shifter, the Deltabox frame, The forged piston & aluminium silicon block, fuel injection, 4 valves……….etc..it is all a huge migration from the existing breed of indian bikes and needs serious acknowledgement. With all these features, maintaining a price at around100,000 seems to be a fair job from Yamaha, India to generate a foothold in the already competitive & ripe two wheeler market and ever rising crude prices and inflation. The bike wil probably carve a niche & will send wake up call to the competition.
All in all, the price seems to be justified & bike lovers! here is the way to go…

Dear Said, I absolutely appreciate your knowhow of the history this R15. However, whether it is vixion, Thailand, or Indonesia, or bangladesh; which bike in India has matching specs?
Korean products had always been under rated compared to japanese one. But see todays scenario, Koreans are leading in Construction, electronics etc and have global acknowledgement. Chevorlet in India by General Motors is actually korean cars And there is nothing wrong in this and own, improve & relaunch.
Let us not crib over who did what with this piece of metal & gear. It is good that yamaha acknowledged this engine & packaged it there way and rechristened it as Yamaha.
I am keeping my fingers crossed to know the Indian bikers response in terms of sales figures.

Bottom line……….R15 has strong psychological competition. When you have so much to choose from, there is likely hood of what Marketing Gurus term it as ‘cognitive dissonance’. In simple terms, it is a midway condition of an individual where he has conflicting thought on the decision he is about make or already made. Spending almost 1 grand on a 150cc bike may bring such thought process (just like me). Whether to buy Pulsar150 and save almost 1/2 a lac or little more to reach P200 and rest for later to changeover to a new model or simply stick with R15 for long (If you do not get ‘Boredom’ syndrome and itch for change with new models pouring in).
If you have the money  and like the bike thoroughly, let your pockets loose & adrenaline flow……..

@Khalid…. ok ok..its not from Thailand…mixed it up!!

BUt…the engine is completely in a different state of tune…:P….

The r15’s engine makes 17bhp..has 6 gears and has been tested specially for the Indian Market!!! And for your information..it is a common practice that Manufacturers share thes me engine base as the cost of making a new engine is huge and no company can afford to do that!!!!!!

Whatever be the case..teh r15 is superior to the Vixion–I agree taht the engine is basewd on teh V ixion’s mill but it is very much superior to that of the V-ixion..:P So no need to pity me..pity yourself dude–I guess you are smell something burning..lolzz…coz they are not getting the R15 now!! Ahem..but i have a solution..plzz go and buy yourself a pacifier….:p

@Synn..Mistake rectified..;-)

typo errors regretted

“I guess you are smell something burning”–This is wrong

I think i smell something buring”–Correct

btw…you should not worry..teh R15 wil also be exported!!

 I must tell you are really funny man. My profound wishes to Yamaha to do what they can with this bike- export or whatever. Umpteenth look at the bike- the frame, the chassis, quality, the styling etc etc-nothing seems to come close to this one. I still ponder over its’ mileage. I think this 150cc with six cogs will be really, really interesting.
Somebody criticised about Yamaha’s decision for this smaller engine. Their Engineers really seems to have optimised the overall refinement, performance, efficiency and Indian road/traffic conditions. Bigger engine would definitely (With R15’s level of refinement and performance-forget the ‘clanky’ and ‘rattling’ indian 220’s) be much costlier & out of reach of many, many more bikers. Hope, R15 could have sported a little wider tyres.

 I HAD MY FIRST FEEL OF THE R15 AT THE MALL. MY IMPRESSION WAS MIXED. I WAS SERIOUSLY DISPPOINTED BY THE REAR TYRE WIDTH. IT LOOKS EXCRUCIATINGLY THIN ON THE BULGING FRAME ON THE TOP.
HOWEVER, ALL SAID….THE FIT & FINISH OF THE MACHINE IS OUTSTANDING. SITTING STANCE IS AMAZINGLY SPORTY.
HOPEFULLY, THIS ONE ‘CORRECTION’ (I WON’T SAY MODIFICATION) OF BROADENING THE REAR TYRE (ATLEAST0 WOULD DO LOT OF GOOD TO THIS BIKE.

Posting my observation last night was just a flash in the pan. My first impression now seems little preposterous after my first visit to the showroom. The black R15 looks amazingly impressive. As far as tyre size goes, it has a ‘technical back-ground’ to it’s design. Yamaha has balanced the entire frame & the dynamics to reach the right dimensions. However, the performance of the bike may override all we complain and be a reliable companion for years to come.
additionally, there are thoughtful goodies to the r15 owners. the bike comes factory fitted with the remote security system and a body cover. ICING ON THE CAKE- IT IS COMES WITH 5 YEAR WARRANTY TOO.

 I am seriously disappointed by the road presence of the R15. I also happened to see the ‘drag race’ in the youtube and p220 clearly won hands down. apparently, the P220 road presence was commendable. Just see the video to believe.
Ninja 250R……..r u the answer?
